Hello!

My 4 yr old grandson has taken to swearing. My daughter inlaw is devasted. How have other mums handled this situation.

  • I’d be reminding the child of words that are appropriate to use and try not to give the swear words a reaction ad this may increase the child using them for attention.

  • My four year old came home calling a log a “f*#* huge log” my husband and I chose to ignore it and over time it went. Once it went away we spoke to our son about what are good words and what are bad words.

  • Swearing is something they hear, in the shops, at friends places, at school. You can’t stop them from hearing it, which means they’re going to start saying it. Don’t react to it. Often bad behaviour dissipates with time and ignoring

  • My 3 year old started swearing like a trouper. At first we said no and told him it was naughty but that only seemed to encourage him more so we started ignoring it and he slowly got over it and stopped doing it as he wasn’t getting a reaction

  • I used to ignore it. My kids didn’t swear much when growing up. When they left home they picked it up and do it quite often now. My son got really bad after joining the army :0

  • I’m sorry this is happening! :c maybe talk to them and say people who say bad words get in trouble and see how that goes. Or you can ignore it and see how that works.

  • Don’t pay attention to it as they will just react and do it more.

  • I cant remember exactly with my oldest but she never swears now. I swear around my children without realising that I am doing it and I love listening to eminem so they hear it every now and than. I remember my oldest saying shit to everything. It took a while but I told her that its naughty, we did a few time outs and she eventually stopped.

  • My daughter, I explained it was a naughty word and that it shouldn’t be said. She now tells me off If I swear.
My son, however, is proving more difficult, he thinks it’s a great joke. Ive taken to ignoring it, so hopefully that will work.
