Hello!

“I need help! My daughter (10 months) has recently started turning/crawling/standing on her change table when I change her nappy. I’ve tried every distraction I can think of – faces, noises, singing, toys, letting her do what she wants for a couple of minutes, holding her still and saying no naughty – but its becoming a half hour mission just to get her nappy back on! Is this just a phase she’s going through or are there some tips on how to make this process easier? Thanks” How do you keep a 10 month old still when changing nappies?

  • this is the worst!! haha 18 months and still trying furiously to get out of nappy changes!

  • Lol it can be challenging indeed. I offered toys they only got to use with nappy change, to keep the interest high.

  • My son has been doing this since aboout 10 months its so hard he screams and acts like its the end of the world the only way i can is to distract him with something.

  • I’m having this problem now! I have an ottoman in the loungeroom, tv on and let her hold the remote

  • I had this problem also. It got so bad that my parents ended up buying a cheap but good change table with straps to clip her in and hold her down

  • Ha ha the eternal struggle of nappy changes!!

  • For mine key bunches work

  • I think this was why pull up nappy pants were invented!

  • It is certainly challenging isn’t it? Just a phase I’m afraid.

  • I am not sure there is a way, but it taught me to pick up my pace and change them really fast.

  • I think most babies do it you just find a way eventually

  • I’m pretty sure that it’s just a phase that all kids go through

  • I have an eight month old that has just started doing the same thing it is has made it a challenge! Some great tips here!

  • I would change in the floor on a light sheet (easy to wash) or a disposable change nappy with poo is present. It’s just a phase she will stop soon enough. Thi is the phase where I decided to lose te fake nails I ended up with poo under them

  • You could try changing her on the floor, at least down there its safer than her standing up on the change table. Otherwise change to pull up nappy pants, I found them a lifesaver, especially with my son who was walking at 9 months and didn’t want to be laid down!

  • Distraction is the key for me now! Today when I was changing my 14 months old I found the only thing that kept her still was handing her something to keep her occupied…

  • i change on the floor and hand her a special toy which is meant for nappy changes

  • Once my little one got more squirmy I found it much easier (and safer) to change her on the floor. She still has her moments where she is a total wiggle worm and will escape in the middle of a change though. I have found that firmly placing one hand on her tummy helps and each time that she moves re-positioning her so that she is on her back right where she should be.

  • Try pull-ups. Or put hand on chest and change with the other, that’s what I did before switching to pull ups.

  • That’s a funny time. It’s a struggle but they get past it
