Hello!

“I have four children and I am very sentimental. I have kept all their baby cards, birthday cards, certificates etc. I also have some of their ‘artwork’ and the newspapers from the day they were born. I do want to keep these items but was looking for some ideas as to the best way to store all this. Space isn’t an issue, just want to be able to store everything appropriately to protect it.” How do you store precious items?

  • I also use plastic storage containers for precious items too.

  • I have a camphor wood trunk – you can do the same with camphor balls… throw a few in the box, and add the collectables… I have saved precious things for 23 years

  • Buy some acid free sheets from an art shop and store the paper items one between each sheet. This will stop the paper going yellow. You can scan these items as well so that you have a digital back up. You may wish to store it all in a fireproof filing cabinet.

  • Use a big wooden box that has been treated. Wrap precious items in tissue paper and bubble wrap and then store in box. This should protect those precious items.

  • I store all my son items in the wooden box.

  • There are some good suggestions below. What did you end up going with?

  • Get a big box to store things in. Or u can get those plastic bags that suction down to nothing from big w

  • A little plastic air tight box :)

  • I have a plastic storage box I bought from bunnings! And keep adding to it

  • So many useful tips Best of Luck

  • Place them in plastic sleeves and keep in a plastic box. Add a couple of moth balls for protection

  • I really like KRIS COLE’s ideas.

  • I’ve enjoyed reading some of these answers, they’ve given me some new ideas to try

  • I kept all cards, school reports, children’s art masterpieces, special mementoes infact everything from my 3 sons childhood, stored in sealed plastic bags in moisture and insect proof (dried lavender leaves in the bags helps here). As a Defence family these bags travelled around the country, growing with the boys. When they reached adult hood, i made a “This is Your Life Book” ( similar to the modern scrapbook) with all their childhood mementos for each boy. These books are treasured and favourites with the grandkids.

  • Acid free tissue paper is the best I have found

  • My daughter painter her own storage box we put all her special items in. Its just an old shoe box.

  • we have a storage box for each child and a time capsule with their baby items (first tooth lost, lock of hair etc). The hard bit is deciding which ones to keep

  • Storage boxes from IKEA are great to store these kind of stuff

  • I would put it in a beautiful folder, kept in a waterproof container.

  • I tend to keep everything, Baby notices arm-band are with his blue book, school photos and reports have a special draw. Paintings and other school work are in a box. Photos are in albums except for the last few years and they are on computer. Word of advice, make sure you back up your photo’s, as computers get old.
