  • I walk the kids to school most days, about 1km. I cart them to various team sports. I do a lot of my exercise separately. Their dad will play things like tennis with them maybe one weekend a month.

  • We have a home gym and my partner and I take turns looking after the kids. Still get 3 to 4 work outs in a week (but I’m awake before the kids too)

  • We did a lot more long walks on weekends but haven’t been doing very much exercise lately and my waistline is showing signs of neglect :)

  • I found I was too busy with the kids to fit in exercise. I did lots of running around outside with the kids though, just no set exercise regimen

  • We try and do some sort of exercise as a family at least once a week – usually walking the dog, going for a scooter/bike ride or bush walking. My kids are very active and with working full time it’s all we can get in together but it’s achievable and maintainable.

  • It has varied over the years, but we try to get a 30 minute walk about 2 or 3 times a week.

  • I go on a 30min walk with my kids 3 times a week or when ever I can but because I have a 4 year old 2 year old and a 4 month old sometimes it’s not in my favor and everything goes wrong . From my kid needing her water bottle filled to forgetting to write on the envelope and no pens want to work to silly tantrums over nothing. AND they usually happen all at once.
but other then that I use needing things from the shops as a excuse to go for a walk and the kids love it.
It settles the baby and puts her to sleep when I cant.
it exhaust the kids and puts smiles on their faces when we go that extra distance to the park. The extra distance is more for me but the kids get the benefits of it by going to the patk

  • I’m lucky I’m still on maternity leave, I used to run but that’s hard with a baby. Instead I got a treadmill and try to fit in 30 minutes a few times a week when bubs is down for a nap. It doesn’t always work out but I figure any little bit helps, especially for self confidence!

  • I try to fit in 30 minutes a day plus I play netball once a week and take my toddler to the playground each weekend which im running around with him. And if the weather is nice we take him to oval and kick the balls around while running and be silly. Every bit counts

  • It’s hard sometimes with kids but if you can walk to a park or to kinder or school that’s a great help.

  • I squeeze in 30mins a day. I find having an exercise bike is very handy. I usually do my exercise when the youngest is napping. I work from home so time her nap to coincide with my break. I do it all then.

  • I think what exercise you do depends on their ages and what opportunities you have. At some stages on some days you will only be able to grab 5 minutes here and there (eg doing a few gentle squats/lunge while microwave cooks or skipping with rope for 30 seconds when hanging washing out to raise heart for more intense exercise). But those 5 minutes can all add up to a good half hour through the day. Housework/playing with the kids/picking up toys etc. contributes to ‘light exercise’ too. On other days you’ll be able to get out and walk for hours with pusher and more mobile children. But if you get a chance for some actual time out, with someone looking after the children, the sky is the limit! I think 60 minutes moderate activity a day is recommended; with a smaller proportion of more intense heart raising efforts thrown in and strength/resistance as you get older to prevent muscle loss.
