  • I was taught to entertain myself and have done exactly the same with mine. Yes, they used to come out and say they were bored but every child does that. We’d do our normal routine except in holidays when we would go visiting family and friends. We lived near the beach so we were there most of the time and were never bored.

  • From a young age I taught my kids to entertain themselves, not entertain them. Start with taking distance any moment your children are playing nicely by themselves, do not interact, it’s HOLY

  • Get them to make an obstacle course in the back yard, hopscotch, chalk drawings, colouring in, movie day/fort building, puzzles, reading, baking, making cleaning fun

  • Give them challenges – whether it’s making something, completing a puzzle, learning something new.

  • If you’re hoping to keep them busy for school holidays, no hope of being able to do it every dsy. Kids get bored, they’re supposed to get bored and learn to occupy themselves

  • I stagger our day which we have routined. Each day is set very similar. Book time, play time, puzzles, drawing, writing, creative time where gluing, painting and playdough are used. We also do gardening, go for walks, ride bikes, cooking. Kids have quiet time after lunch where a movie is watched. Keeping my 2 entertained has been easy.

  • Impossible to keep them entertained all day, and it’s good for kids to be bored sometimes. I like walks, picnics, parks, art n crafts, DVD days, cooking, beach, backyard camping etc.

  • I never keep my kids entertained, they will have to do that themselves. Sure when they were very small I played with them and offered suggestions, but the older they became the more I backed off. And they all developed the skill to occupy and play by themselves.

  • My advice is to take them to the park. This allows time for them to scream yell jump and play. I find it tires them out for a small amount of time. It’s also free and as long as you supervise them can make for a much easier day and less fights with all that kid energy used a little bit.
Fresh air and exercise is good for the soul!

  • We have a school holidays activity box. I put some colouring books, craft supplies, games, etc. I add new things every day to make it interesting. I don’t buy new stuff just my stockpile, books they’ve been given that I put aside. We also bake, make and play with slime, play in the sandpit and on the swings, walk to the park, make a dinosaur small world in the garden, plant seeds, play with buckets of water, make an erupting volcano, play boards games, do craft, watch a movie. Our kids are 6.5 years old, 5 years old and 18 months old.

  • We start with a little tv time, then we move onto outside play, like trucks and riding bikes, I sometimes take them to the park or just a walk in general I push one in a pram and the other rides his bike. Then we have lunch followed by some inside play with cars trucks and sometimes craft, my last resort is the iPad as I don’t want my child to be addicted to using technology to keep him entertained, so when his on the iPad I make sure it’s educational games and ones that make him learn new things. Then it’s more outside play followed by about an hour of tv again then bath and bed.

  • Depending on your kids ages and the amount of time you will be able to interact with them, there can be lots to do! If they have a dolls house they can have imaginary play, or even make their own dolls house with bits and pieces from around the house! Using your own furniture too.
Arts and Crafts, so painting, drawing, and we love to make our own playdoh! Heaps of recipes online.
If you can spend time with them getting them in the kitchen to help bake is a fun option too! Helping with cupcakes, muffins etc.
