I would love to know exactly how this works.

So many different and new ways to go through child-birth these days. If it works, why not use it? Thanks for the post.

If it is anything like meditation, then I imagine it would be really helpful. Just being able to be calm would be beneficial. Best wishes for the upcoming birth 🙂

My epidural did not work and used hypno birthing to stay calm.
Definitely worthwhile in my opinion, even if you don’t follow every single thing there are some really good techniques to have in your tool box to help with having an enjoyable birth

Yes I used hypnobirthing and recommend it to everyone!! I didn’t necessarily use every single aspect just what worked for me, but it really helped me to relax between contractions and to be calm throughout the entire experience I really enjoyed my birth and I think that has a lot to do with it!

I still don’t get the concept of this and how it works.
I’m super sceptical of hypnotism anyway so probably why I don’t understand it all. I always just thought it was a thing in movies but didn’t work in real life as a child as you try it on your friends and it never works lol.

Just wanted to pop in and say wow this has opened my eyes, I hadn’t even remembered hypnobirthing and I’m about to give birth in a few months, following a traumatic twin birth. Im going to look into it ASAP.

I did a Hypnobirthing course before my first baby and a Calmbirth course before having my third. I thoroughly recommend them. You have to put the practice into the breathing techniques, visualisation and hypnosis/deep relaxation exercises but IMO this is invaluable and I wish every mum to be was trained in it. Accessing deep relaxation is also really helpful in maximising rest periods after the birth, getting to sleep despite a boost environment in hospital etc.

Some of Hypnobirthing seems a little off the wall and unsubstantiated, but to be honest birth is such a different state of mind and being that on reflection o could put aside my scepticism and go with it as the tools it gives you are invaluable and provided a ‘map’ to get me through each contraction/wave.

I also highly recommend Ina May Gaskin’s Guide to Childbirth and her other books.

my sister did it and used meditation as well to help with contractions. She loved it. It was only her first birth so she doesn’t have a point of comparison though.

I did calmbirth which was amazing

I tried hypnobirthing for my second baby. This followed a really traumatic first birth, and to be honest, I was terrified of giving birth again. Hynobirthing really helped me, and although my husband at the time was fairly sceptical he was actually relieved to have been given some phrases which would put me back into focus and help me stick to my plan. Of course, all births are individual and I did get to the stage where I wanted an epidural – but it was too late by then and I had my baby. I found it was a positive and healing experience, and I enjoyed endorphins after the the birth, which I didn’t get after my first birth. Look into it for sure, it definitely can’t hurt. Just remember that births are individual and babies don’t always follow our plans. Best of luck x

Thank you all. Its my second and I wanted to try something to better manage pain, now I know what to expect. I have signed up to online classes starting Monday.

I think giving birth is something you can’t have a solid plan for, so many variables and possible problems, which is why I chose hospital as my only birthing option

I’ve tried hypnotherapy (not hypobirthing), and I’m afraid it wasn’t successful for me. So I didn’t even consider it for birth.

I have not tried it but interested to read about experiences and answers.

I read the hypnobiryhing boook, I think there were some great ideas and I had 2 short easy labour’s. Birth skills is also a great read, by juju sundim

I never heard about it…maybe ask your midwife and if its available at your hospital
