Hello!

I can fall asleep in the chair but when I go to bed, my head goes into overdrive. I just can’t switch off it’s driving me nuts – any ideas?

  • Switch off technology at least an hour before bed. Don’t eat right before bed. Stretch. Read a book. Dim the lights at least half an hour before bed.

  • Start a bedtime routine so that your body and mind know it’s time to sleep.

  • sorry pressed too early …continue from Lavendaer
can make you feel relaxed !

  • I am a light sleepy and can easily get into insomnia if not careful. Some tips which I learnt and will share with you are : eat dinner at least a couple of hours before sleep, stay away from caffeine or fizzy drinks starting early evening or late afternoon . Try and relax yourself before sleeping such as wearing comfy clothes, and I even bought an oil diffuser on sale this year as the certain scents such as lavender can make

  • Reading a book is a great idea for sleep or you could try Swisse Sleep tablets.

  • Try and establish a routine; write things down (to do list or whatever stops you switching off) earlier in the day so that you don’t have to think about anything at night. When you are trying to get to sleep maybe focus on one pleasurable repetitive thing (like swimming or running or walking or knitting or browsing up and down aisles of your favourite shop ) and imagine yourself doing it. (especially nice to think of something you’ve planned to treat yourself to the next day) Just let the image stay with you and enjoy mentally the relaxing activity and let it lull yourself to sleep. Good luck.

  • I’ve got a free meditation app on my phone and play that most nights as I have the same problem……brain goes into overdrive when I’m trying to sleep even though I’m tired. I find doing a short meditation usually works and there are several free apps to use.

  • I’m the same, it’s so frustrating! It’s been suggested a routine helps. Turn off the tv, mobile, computer, iPad for at least an hour before heading to bed. Read a book in bed for a little. Sometimes these help, other times there’s no effect

  • I always read in bed before going to sleep. It helps to calm my mind and settle down for the night.

  • I find a warm bath, warm drink and warm bed helps. Developing some patterns around going to sleep helps. A notepad and pen beside your bed may help for times when ‘switch off’ does not happen. Write it down and then go back to sleep.

  • I find Sleepy Time tea helpful and there is a very recent article on the MoM blog about sleep. Might be worth a read for some more helpful ideas?

  • I take one Nature’s Own Sleep-Ezy tablet which is just a Valerian tablet. It helps to relax and calm me and I have a GREAT night’s sleep. I only need to take them for about a week until I have retrained myself to calm down at night.
