I have a friend that takes a spare 2 man tent and sets it up for her kids to play in- that way they have shade, you can close the flyscreen to stop bugs, and they aren’t going to trek dirt and who knows what else into your sleeping tent.
There’s nothing worse than getting into your sleeping bag and realising that the kids have filled it with sand/ dirt/ mud etc.

Also, bring their favourite toy and pillow – provides a lot of comfort.

We did our family holiday with our 6 month old and other family members had a nearly 3 year old. Having a shade tent area helped in the middle of the day (one of those no wall canopy type things) otherwise going to a camping ground with a shade Covered area because when it’s really sunny it can be hard work. Some outside games a great, such as a ring toss or ride on toy or a ball, just to play outside easily. We brought a massive bucket for evening bath time to do next to the tent which for us was easier than walking to toilets. It’s lots of fun, you’ll hopefully have a great time.

Clothes, activities and definitely a first aid kit.

Take lots of changes of clothes for your child and some crayons and paper to keep them entertained

pack some colouring in books etc, also some cards where you match up pictues for games of snap.etc. A soccer/ football..also lots of little healthy snacks. We also took a couple of thermoses so we could give our kids a hot milo/ or milk while out on day tours so they had a treat when we had our coffee.
If you have a spare cheap camera you could let the kid take some photos etc. Or a cheap fishing rod so your hubby could teach you kid how to fish. And deffently a bucket and spade is a must if you are near the beach. If you are at a powered camping sight i would also take one of the travel/car. dvd players incase of bad weather or in the need of calm down time with the kids fav dvds.
My kids love little things like cooking marshmellows or toast on the camp fire. and hot potaotes cooked in the hot ash. they will eat them camping but never at home.
