Always tricky – look for decorations that hang on the wall – fold out tinsel banners won’t be hard to pack but can look special.

Wall decals. Tinsel. A small Xmas tree. One of those light things that sparkle light colour and shapes onto the walls and ceiling

Avoid the hotel room as much as possible, just for showering and sleeping if possible

doN’t use a hotel – use an apartment perhaps (often not much more expensive). Or airbnb. Otherwise take something like a tent for them.

We had a miniture fibre optic christmas tree. It was so pretty and really helped to make our hotel room festive.

thanks for the tips. we are travelling next christmas so it’s great to have these ideas. i have also been told some hotels will put up a tree (and perhaps decorate the room a bit) if you request it.

the felt tree is a great idea – and good advice too about making sure you have something planned for Christmas lunch/dinner.

a small xmas tree that folds up they are usually used as table centre pieces and often are fibre optic, but I would suggest organising dinner one year we stayed in canberra and no where was open so we ended up having microwave meals from a servo.

I saw something like what ‘tobysmummy’ was talking about in the Better Homes and Gardens’ magazine.

A bit late, but I saw an awesome felt tree that sticks to the wall, and just rolls up when you’re not using it!

Hope you had a lovely christmas, I like the idea of a printed, drawn or painted tree that you can roll up and take with you, the magic of christmas can be created pretty much anywhere.
