Hello!

My baby is due in about 6 weeks and still contemplating whether I should get a musical mobile for above the cot. Is it worth getting a musical mobile to hang above the cot?

  • It’s not a must have but certainly can be helpful; the sound and movement can be calming and distracting.

  • I never did cause I was scared it would fall on them. I had one beside the cot instead. It’s nice to have music play to settle them

  • My son had one as a baby and loved it. I had the same one for my daughter as a baby and she just wasn’t interested. I think it’s worth buying one, keeping one baby happy is better then none

  • We had ever intention of getting one. But there is another option, we got a fisher price giraffe that you press and lights up and plays music. It is great to take when out etc and the pram. To us it was a better option for our daughter.

  • Definitely! We bought one and it has been one of the many great purchases for our child. Our son loves to look at the mobile rotating above his head and at about 7 weeks he started babbling at the animals continuously! Delight to watch!

  • They can be handy to distract / amuse a baby during nappy change, especially otherwise they scream while you are doing it. Dealt with one like that. It didn’t cure the problem completely but it certainly helped.

  • I think it can be calming for them, also it gives them something to look at.

  • nahhh, wait and see what you get as gifts. I got so many wind up musical toys, no need for a musical mobile

  • I found my little one loved it and i still use he’s but it was one where you can remove the hanging part, so it’s safe for him now he’s 14 months

  • yeah i bought one but when they are a little one, they don’t care, around 4-6 months they might be a little interested in it

  • We bought one for our first and it’s more a decorative piece than used for the baby while he sleeps. It looks great but I dnt think its necessary.

  • I might just wait and see if bub doesn’t settle

  • Thanks its good to see the positives and negatives

  • We liked having one. Something interesting for bubba to look at and they think its amazing.

  • I think they can be very calming especially if they play a lullaby.

  • I think they are a great idea but not for over the bed. You want your little one to know that bedtime is for sleeping, not to be stimulated with bright objects and music.

  • I honestly believe that they’re a waste of money.

  • Both of my boys had one and it was one of the things I was determined that they would have of their own. Although I didn’t use it a lot when they were very little, once they were about six months old it was great and I even used it over the change table for a period

  • I love them and they can be so soothing.

  • I found it useful for 1 of my children but the other 2 didn’t take to it. They all have different things – you might need to try a few but the mobile is good for early stimulation.
