Hello!

Ever since my daughter has been in a front facing car seat I noticed she has been rubbing herself up against the seat belt and she also does it when she sits in a supermarket trolley and I recently asked her why she does it andshe said it feels good and that’s when I realised she is mesturbating. Has anyone else ever dealt with this for a girl or boy? I have tried telling her not to do it infront of anyone but she doesn’t seem to understand.

  • Normal behaviour, she has found something that is pleasurable to her no different to scratching an itch!!, ignore it or it may become a habit and in public it probably is not really socially acceptable however I doubt many people would even realize what she was doing, boys are really bad for this, lots of little lads walk around shops with their hands down their pants, LOL, I would gently change her attention whenever I noticed it but not make an issue of it, she will out grow it. do not embarrass her it is perfectly normal human behaviour and wonderful if she grows up not ashamed of her body and its functions and that she can talk to you about it.

  • Yep it is quite normal, if it was a boy he would probably be pulling at it and stretching it out instead. It can be embarrassing but is best not made a big deal out of and they generally find something else they like doing. Sometimes a child will do things more because they love their parents reaction, it is wise to remember that when dealing with behaviours you want them to stop. Good luck.

  • Very normal behaviour. I’d just ignore it. If you make too big a fuss over it she may start to do this for attention as well which is not what you want!

  • Yep I had a toddler that did it for a little bit too. I think she ‘discovered’ it while doing something else and realised it felt nice. I didn’t talk to her about it and it went away by it’s self. Now she just copies her older brother showing her butt :( The more attention I gave her the more she did it so now I just gently say that’s rude and to pull her pants up and then distract her with something else.

  • all kids go through this stage just don’t make a big deal out of it

  • i would do as suggested below

  • Just ignore it, all children play with their genitals and if you give too much attention then they will do it longer for the fun of it

  • Its very commen. If you put to much energy into it, it will just become a battle, or teach her that its bad. Encourage her to learn that its a private activity, but a normal one.
