Hello!

I’m just wondering if you serve your Christmas feast hot or hold? Do you have a hot traditional style Christmas dinner/lunch, or a cold meat and salad type dinner/lunch? I grew up having cold meats, seafood and salads but some of my partner’s extended family had hot dinners. Not sure if one time I would like to do a hot meal for Christmas, but will obviously need the air con cranked up to dispel the heat!

  • Definitely cold cooked meat with salads and desserts, someone always adds in the rare hot plate, but haviny so many people in the house plus ovens, no thankyou????

  • We have usually cold food with Christmas, as the weather is hot and it’s hassle free.

  • We have a combination of hot meat and cold meat, hot veggies and cold salads so very delicious!

  • With the heat in December, its usually cold but we might have one or two hot dishes.

  • Cold; it’s so much easier to prepare.

  • I always love the hot feast.. I am a stickler for tradition and some of it still tastes pretty good cold

  • We always slow the roast meats so that it is hot when it’s time to be served but doesn’t heat up the kitchen as much as the oven would – we love a hot christmas meal.

  • If I had a choice I’d do a hot meal, however it depends on the weather. We went for cod this year.

  • We do a bit of both mix it up from year to year love both although you can not beat a cooked glazed ham, turkey and veggies

  • Cold, try to keep the preparation on the day to a minimum, I try and buy as much pre cooked boneless meats as possible, slice ham, beef, pork, turkey breast, chicken, different salami’s, metwursts, twiggy sticks, cabonos and anything that people may eat, I try and serve them all on platters, keeping them separate because the kids don’t like flavours mixing, we also have a large green salad, platters with pickled onions, tomatoes and bits and pieces, platter with celery sticks, carrots, anything they may dip, I have a couple of dips for nibbling, some nuts, cherries, a bowl of stone fruits, and a cut up platter of fresh fruit and melons, for salads we have basic coleslaw, potato, beetroot, pasta, rice. and dessert is usually a blackforest cake and cheesecake, no one in our family are pudding or fruit cake eaters so have stopped them as they just get wasted. this seems to full everyone up, and with lots of ice, eskies and an early start it is quite easy and relaxing on the day with lots of leftovers for the next day.

  • We’re very traditional and still have the hot lunch with all the trimmings – turkey, pork, lamb, roasted vegetables. With trifle, pavlova and Christmas pudding for dessert. And dinner is usually left over meat with a salad. Not a lot of eating goes on at dinner time, though.

  • If it is a fire ban no naked flame is allowed and that includes BBQs, Only electric ones can be used. If you cook food in the house on a really hot you are going to have seek refuge in other rooms or rehydrate constantly. We have always had cold gourmet meats and salads followed by a Christmas Pudding with egg custard, or fresh in-season fresh fruit salad and icecream or whipped cream

  • Christmas Day is spent at my wonderful sister-in-laws, we have a hot Lunch (chicken or turkey, baked veggies and gravy and traditional Christmas Pudding with ice cream, cream or custard.) and a cold dinner at night with ham, salads, and cold leftovers, pavlova, and trifle.) OH yumm now my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

  • traditional hot Christmas lunch here as long as its at my in laws it will be a hot lunch

  • Christmas day is usually at my parents place with mums brother and his wife, their children and their children and mum does a traditional hot meal.Dad usually cooks the meat on the webber and mum roasts vegetables

  • I think it depends on the weather,, it should be hot for lunch and cold for tea… but If it is going to be a hot day I cook the meat the day before so that all I have to do is cook the veges on the day and just reheat the mat

  • Our society today is even ditching the meat and salads and they are now going for seafood but if you do this keep it chilled you don’t want anyone suffering from food poisoning do you. So as much as I love to have that very traditional hot Christmas lunch its simply too hot here so I go for the cold meats and salads and make a Christmas pudding ice cream for desert. What ever way you decide to go just enjoy the day and have a very merry Christmas with your family and friends

  • Living in Queensland it’s fresh prawns, trying out new salads, get down the beach under a pandanus tree, lots of cool drinks and alcohol for sure – the only way to go…”Make your own tradition”

  • We serve cold seafood, prawns, crab and smoked ham with lots of salads for lunch as in Queensland it is too hot & we are in & out of the pool all day, then for dinner we have a hot BBQ with any left over prawns, rib fillet and hot potato bake and gravy.

  • We have a hot lunch with roast pork, chicken and vegetables plus all the trimmings with pudding and custard for dessert. Dinner is leftover cold meat and seafood and salad, usually followed by pavlova.
