Hello!

We’ve recently added a new kitten to our family (3 kids plus a 1 year old cat). He’s 13 weeks old and doesn’t seem to particularly like using the kitty litter tray.
At first he was using it all the time, but then started to urinate next to the toilet and poop right next to the tray (he’s not missing either, we’ve caught him actually deliberately sitting next to the tray a few times.)
We live in a small 3 bed, 1 bathroom unit (bathroom, laundry and toilet all in one) so we don’t have many options on where to put the kitty litter tray. It has to be in the bathroom/laundry/toilet area which isn’t very large.

If anyone has advice on how to encourage him to start using the tray for ALL his business it would help me so much!
I’m currently mopping the floor about twice a day due to the urine and can’t keep doing this once I go back to work in a few weeks time!

Hubby wanted the second cat but has injured his knee so isn’t currently helping much with the daily l mopping of the urine mess.
I’m the first one up during school term so this will mean I have to get up even earlier than I already do if this keeps happening.

  • Try different type of litter and add another tray, maybe he doesn’t like to share… Jackson Galaxy has lots of info on cat behavioural issues, might be worth a look…

  • I use to pop my kitten in the tray when she needed to go. Maybe a smaller tray? Best of luck!

  • Maybe try changing the kitty litter brand, there might be something they don’t like about it. If that doesn’t work try putting a toilet training mat next to the try, that might help with clean up
