  • Wine is the best winner. And colouring books for kids.

  • I buy cheap boxes of chocolates or toiletry sets from Kmart (approx $2 each) and wrap in cellophane with ribbon and keep in the cupboard for last minute unexpected gifts 🙂

  • I always try to have a tea infuser and packet of nice tea on hand.

  • Theres usually half price sales on chocolates before christmas, grab a heap to stash away and I always find that a scented candle never goes astray. I make my own so its easy to have a few in the cupboard at a time just in case. All it needs then is a bit of wrapping paper or a cheap gift bag 🙂

  • Nice room diffusers and fancy soap – there is no use by date on them and if you don’t need to use them, you can treat yourself

  • Hope you got though the season without too many extra gifts being needed

  • Every year I always buy chocolate and wine and if I don’t get unexpected guests I take them to a New Year’s Eve party

  • We always do the nice Christmas decorations as a last minute gift. When we travel I try and pick them up overseas. Otherwise handmade soaps is a great option too.

  • Love all of these ideas; I am going to set aside a box for these gifts! 🙂

  • I always keep some good quality Xmas Decorations in reserve for those unexpected gifts. One can never have too many Xmas decorations and it is something different than chocolates, biscuits or cake.

  • Home cooking is always a great one for last minute gifts a big batch of biscuits or a yummy batch of fudge presented up in little tins, boxes or gift bags look really great and I think is a bit special as you have added a personal touch.

  • Thinking about next year… Yes, I agree with the chocolates too. Stock up when they are on discount (starting from November even 50% discount). They will always turn up useful.
I love the candles idea too. Very easy to store!

  • Always keep a few bottles of Pink Sparkling Wine under the tree along with a box of chocolates or two – no matter who turns up a box of chocs or pink wine will suit and can be absorbed into the cupboard after Christmas if not used!

  • I have jars of condiments in gift boxes I bought for ( just in case) presents & the ones I didn’t gift go straight into the pantry that we will use.

  • Love the wine and candles idea; will use it next year! 🙂

  • Nice smelling candles.

  • Seems chockies are the favourite….. of which I always have a few boxes wrapped & ready (in different sizes). If no-one comes then I break them open for New Year visitors.

  • This happened to me. I gave them a bottle of win from the cupboard. A platter of home-made profiteroles and ginger cake. And finally a bag of pantene shampoo & hair sample bottles and an un-opened bottle of moisturiser I had round the house!

  • Oops, I’m a bit late for Christmas, but maybe for other occasions: chocolate has already been mentioned, but another possibility is having a couple of bottles of wine? You can tizzy it up a bit with either a wine gift bag, or tie some ribbon around the neck.

  • I always have a couple of boxes of chocolates wrapped, ready to go, they are often on special in the weeks leading up to Christmas for half price, and if not needed then a nice treat for the family in a few weeks time.
