Hello!

Recently found out that my unborn baby’s placenta has a marginal cord. Reading about it online has created some anxiety. Midwife said she is not worried, but I think she might be saying it to make me not panic.
Anyone else has had the same? Was delivery and baby okay?

  • i think trusting the doc and midwife is the only way to relax yourself.

  • Always listen to what they say, the internet always worries people

  • It would be good to ask your mid wife for more information on what it means so you can relax and not have to worry.

  • Does that mean that the cord will be short when the baby is delivered. I know a Mum who has birth to 2 babies a few years apart. Both of them had short cords

  • If you are still feeling a bit unsettled maybe speak to someone else for a second opinion.

  • As long as the baby is receiving a good flow of oxygen and nutrients from the mother, there is no need to worry. But marginal cord insertion can develop into the dangerous velamentous cord insertion later in pregnancy, so it must be monitored carefully. I lost a baby at 26 weeks at the placenta stopped providing enough nutrition. I’d get a very good gynecologist who can keep a close eye on that as the pregnancy progresses. Good luck. .

  • Sorry you have this. Best to talk to a gp or your midwife at the apts to give you piece of mind

  • If you’re concerned you could speak to your GP too and get a second opinion. Drgoogle has a way of causing some unnecessary anxiety. I wish you the best of luck and hope it all turbs out well

  • I find it fascinating to speak with other pregnant women. While we are all doing the same thing, it seems just about every woman’s experience while pregnant and giving birth is so different. I have never heard of this issue either but I’m off to google it and learn something
