If you do a bit of research , serums are an option to moisturisers and can be used alone or very very dry skin, it is used under the cream. In winter my skin gets very dry especially from wind and the cold weather. Sometimes cream alone is not enough . What I did was bought a small bottle of Rosehip oil ( currently using Trilogy ) and I apply this oil before I put on nightcream . I also do this for my neck and after a week or so , my skin was so soft and smooth and not as dry . So to answer your question , try Rosehip oil if you feel that serum is too heavy for you . Priceline stores have testers as well, so you can go for a browse and try different types and brands etc before buying .
I thought that serum was an underlayer to moisturiser and they should be used together. I am unsure if serum is a marketing ploy or a genuine extra tier to facial care.
No you need to use both, but you can get oils that will do it. I recently sent my mum some as a gift. They are a lot more expensive though, well the brand I brought was.
I use serum and moisturizer. I guess it depends on your skin type. I put the serum on and leave it for 5 minutes or so, then I use moisturizer. If you’re looking for a good skincare range, that’s not hideously expensive, is organic, and made in Australia, you can’t go past Rubifresh. My skin has never looked so good since I started using their products.
No…they are two different things and should be used together.
Moisturiser is something that helps with hydrating the skin and serums can have all different types of things such as skin boosting vitiamins and such depending on what your skin needs.
I have also posted this answer on the facebook site:
I always use the two together, serum then moisturiser. Depending on your reasons for not wanting to use moisturiser, I may even be able to help you. I am an Arbonne Independent Consultant and we have a number of moisturising products for different types of skin. Samples available, contact me via Olivia Tuohey – Arbonne Independent Consultant to determine which products may be worth trying (or otuohey.arbonne@gmail.com) Olivia x.
I think it depends on what sort of skin you have and which works best for you. Personally, at the age of 54, I find that during the long hot summer months, a serum on it’s own under my makeup works fine for me as I still suffer from oily skin. Other times, I use a light moisturizer. I’ve tried using serum as well as moisturizer and find it’s too much for my skin and makes it oilier and causes my makeup to melt, even during winter when my skin tends to be a little drier. In the winter months I use a moisturizer, a little heavier than what I use in summer. Of a night time I use ORS Organic Rosehip Oil that’s fantastic for my skin as an overnight treatment. It makes my skin glow the next day. My skin still breaks out occasionally, even at my age, but I find that Rosehip Oil doesn’t make my skin break out any more than it normally does. Unfortunately, Rosehip Oil doesn’t sit well under my makeup so I can’t use it of a day time, even if it’s mixed in with a light moisturizer.
Not sure why you want to replace it, but I used to use baby lotion, or baby oil because my skin was sensitive, vaseline petroleum jelly is great at nigh, too greasy during the day though, and Bio oil is a great all rounder. Serum doesn’t replace it it should be used as well.
Rose hip oil is a good all purpose facial oil (it is even helpful on oily skin, weird I know). Having been a beauty therapist for years I can’t recommend it enough. It’s great for all sorts of concerns such as ageing, dehydration, excessive oil production, pigmentation…the list goes on. And yes it can be used instead of a moisturiser and not just on the face. Apply a small amount onto damp skin for best absorption. In summer I find the oil enough on it’s own but in winter I need to put a light moisturiser over the top.
