Hello!

It all started on the 22nd of april when i got a call from the day care that my boy is vomiting.
I picked him up from the day care and the whole day as soon as he has some thing he started vomiting. even panadol. For the next 3-4 days he was just sipping water. On friday the doctor said it could be a viral and asked him to keep him hydrated. It continued and on saturday he had some toast but in the night vomitted again. Sunday took him to another doctor who also checked his tummy and said nothing wrong. Told to take him to emergency if the tummy ache or vomiting worsens. For the next week we just gave him toast but he kept complaining about tummy ache and vomiting. On thursday took him to another doctor who also checked his tummy and said every thing looks normal. Gave a referral for ultrasound. Got an ultrasound done on saturday and yesterday the doctor said everything is normal. but again yesterday night he complained about tummy ache and vomited in the night.

It is very frustating and depressing to see my little boy in pain and vomiting. Any body has any idea what it could be

Some more info

1. Stopped milk or milk products from the time he started vomiting
2. No diarrhea at all
3. Carers in the day care said no other kid is un well with similar symptoms

Going to buy him some de worming tablets today(Doctor suggested we can try this)

If any of you have faced similar symptoms with ur bubs please let me know what you did to fix it.

Thanks

  • I can imagine you’re concerned !
Keep doing what you’re doing and keep on going to the doctor when his symptoms continue.
Offer indeed no milk and no fat and light easy to digest food. You could consider giving him Hydralyte when he has been vomiting severely. Also banana’s is good for potassium intake after vomiting.

  • Whenever I’m in doubt I go straight to children’s hospital.

  • No, this is puzzling to me too. Not good when your 4 yo is suffering so much and the Dr can’t even help. I hope you have found a solution by now

  • Oh your poor little man! It’s terrible to see your kids sick :( my little one was vomiting for 1 1/2 weeks and I went to the doctor three times but he said as long as she had set nappies (so was not dehydrated) there was nothing to worry about it. She’s fine now. But for me four weeks is WAY too long I don’t want to concern you but trust your gut and tell the doctors you are extremely worried and you want more tests done!!
I would like to know if your little man gets better naturally or if they find something..
I will keep you in my thoughts in the meantime xxx

  • Try a different doctor until you get an answer.

  • We were told our son was constipated and to take him home and give him fruit. Well it turned out to be appendicitis. Don’t ignore it, understand it is hard when they are saying nothing wrong but oh so obviously there is something badly wrong. Good luck.

  • Great replies from the wonderful mom members and I agree.
There are so many things that could be causing this gluten, stomach bug, virus etc, so ask for more tests and investigations. A simple blood test is a good start.
Poor little chap…I do hope he is feeling better but if not push for answers he is not well and can not continue along this path. Sending all my wishes for a speedy recovery.

  • just a thought but you mention you give him toast and then he gets tummy ache and vomiting…could it possibly be a gluten issue? Other than this I have no idea.
a blood test maybe an option also. Hydrolyte is a great way to keep hydrated too.

  • Flat Lemonade is GREAT for hydration and keeping energy levels up… I noted you said no diarrhoea, but is he still using his bowels?. Could be a blockage somewhere causing this, especially if he has not used his bowels.. Another thought that comes to mind is coeliac, it portrays a lot of the symptoms too… Just a few thoughts, ideas!..
    Poor little guy!!..

  • Often inflamed Appendix can present with these symptoms.
Appendicitis is often overlooked because doctors go by text book diagnosis. Appendix are not always situated where they are supposed to be.
There can also be twists in the large intestines to cause vomiting over an extended period.
Worming is a good idea, to exclude the possibility of this, also at the same time worm everyone in the family and also pets, otherwise he will become reinfected. Also wash all bed linen. There are so many parasites, that are easily transferred from soil and pets. Make hand washing a high priory. Has he been tested for Hepatitis and has his stools been tested?
I hope you get this resolved soon.

  • The vomiting can cause the belly ache. Have you tried ginger? I know little ones often don’t like it (I can’t blame them I hate the stuff) however they will sometimes drink ginger ale (flat not fizzy the bubbles can make it worse) or candied ginger as they think it’s a lolly. I found ginger didn’t work with this pregnancy (it did with my first 2) but cold water did ease it with sips so maybe an ice cube or water icy pole if all else fails try a chemist with a naturopath can be a little pricey but sometimes there is no choice I think they would suggest inner health plus (probiotic) for kids and they are right about it being the best brand but it does need to be kept in the fridge good luck sorry if I rambled at all just hate when doc push it out the door like this when it can be serious if it causes mass weight loss x

  • Try eliminating foods and also seek a second opinion, or 3rd, 4th etc, until you get your little one better. Also, trust your gut instinct!

  • Poor thing. I would be wanting more investigations as they could easily get dehydrated if they cannot keep anything down and it is not normal to keep vomiting. something is making this happen and you need to find out what. good luck it stops soon.

  • I would be pushing the doctor to consider alternatives and tests. This isn’t normal.

  • I would be going to see another doctor for another opinion.

  • I’ve got a 2 1/2 yr old with a vomiting bug for the past 8 days. Doesn’t sound as severe as your little mite though. To look at her, she seems well but complains of sore tummy and brings any big meals up. We’ve got her on clear fluids, toast, pasta, anything plain that she feels like. Dr said it will pass, watch she is drinking, and bring her back if she’s worse. I’ve given her flat lemonade with a pinch of salt in it to replace what she is losing. The chemists also sell fluid replacement drinks and hydrolyte ice blocks to suck on and take in fluids slowly.
Two of my older children would regularly vomit during meals, then want to eat straight away again (They were around 3-4 years old at the time). They were not otherwise sick. It was their tonsils blocking their airways and they’d have to vomit to clear the mucus in their throat (throat was not sore at all). One grew out of it, the other had their tonsils & adnoids taken out. (Another sign of tonsils/adnoid problems is snoring).
Glad you’ve tried a second opinion from a dr. Sometimes fresh eyes on a problem helps. I hope your little boy gets some relief soon. I can hear your worry.

  • I also would be asking the doctor for a blood test and ask if they think he might be suffering from reflux (just a thought). Hope your little boy feels better soon.

  • Poor lil fella that sounds horrible I would be pushing for the doctors to investigate further it sound like something obviously isn’t right best of luck

  • I Have no idea what it coud be maybe ask doctors if you could have a blood test so they could investigate if futher. Not long ago one of my friends kids had something simular and it went through all the kids in her house, it took them two weeks to clear it from all the kids systems..
