Hello!

I’m currently in week 3 of potty training my 2 year old daughter. We’ve had booming success with doing a wee on the potty and waking up dry (yay!) however, she has been holding in her poos. She has not yet done a poo in the potty and it basically gets to a point where she doesn’t poo for up to two days and then has an accident and gets upset. It is obvious that she is in fact holding it in and not just a case of she doesn’t have to go. She has never had an issue doing poos in nappies, it has only started since we started potty training. I’m worried that if this continues, she could cause damage or suffer health issues, such as an impacted bowel. I don’t want to stop her potty training because she has otherwise been doing really well and I feel like once she gets one poo in the potty, it will all fall into place. We have tried everything to encourage her that it’s ok to do a poo in the potty and she has never been punished for having an accident. We have offered rewards, we have tried using the big toilet, we have even gone to the toilet in front of her to show her and nothing so far has worked. She just doesn’t want to poo! Has anyone had this problem? How can we overcome the fear of pooping without a nappy?

  • Toilet training is so tough! I would keep doing what you’re doing, gentle encouragement with no anger when she has an accident. She’ll eventually get the hand of it
