Hello!

FTM here. When do you go up a nappy size? I know the weight is just a guide. I guess as you go up in the nappy sizes – toddler, junior etc the more absorbent they are.

  • Whenever the smaller size doesnt fit. Remember, the smaller the nappies the more inna pack

  • Just go up when you feel it doesn’t fit so well anymore or when you notice regularly leakage.

  • I simply bought the next size up when the ones I had no longer fitted bub. Easier then going by the recommendations on the pack

  • I used the guideline only as a rough guide I usually have they go up in size before they hit that weight range in the next size (1-2 kg) at least till they start toilet training then you can put in correct weight sizes. It’s worked with both my girls so far no leaking even over night

  • I have always gone up before they hit the end if the weight guideline,
So 3-8kg for instance I would move her to up to the next one when she was about 6kg it just fit better on her 🙂

  • We moved up when we felt they were getting small around the waste or leakage ,

  • I use the weight guides on the nappy pack as a rough guide but I just monitor how the nappy fits my daughter and when it’s too difficult to do up properly, it’s time to change.

  • I also agree with just go up when the nappy gets harder to put on!

  • Interesting comments read!

  • My daughter is a tiny 9kg 15 month old and where’s the 10-15 kg size, the weight is a crappy guide, just go by how it fits your child. My niece who I have custody of on the other hand is 10kg and 8 months old and in the same size so it varies

  • i just go up when the nappy gets harder to put on

  • We used leakage as a guide for our son. We used the tightness around his legs and waist as a main basis and when the nappy wasn’t holding enough liquid anymore, we moved him into the next size

  • When they get too tight and start leaking. I’ve been following the weight, mostly, but I know a few mums who like to buy the next size up from the pack suggests their kid should use (eg when the child is 8kg, buy the 10kg+ nappies). Most of us are just playing it by ear, so if you’re in doubt you could get a small pack of the next size up to try. If they are massive, save them until your little one grows.

  • we judge by two things, if they are starting to get tight around the stomach/legs and struggle to do up we swap. or if they are getting filled really fast and leak through. i dont really go by the weight guides as that doesnt take in account some babies are long and skinny, others really plump.

  • Whenever I notice the nappy getting tighter around her waist I’d go up a size. But it could be different for all bubs.

  • I just used to go up a size when I found they were getting tighter.

  • Theres

  • If the nappies are leaving red marks around their legs they are too tight. They should be firm but not tight. Regardless of size or quality some babies sometimes over-fill nappies. By the time the tops are getting tight the legs are usually pretty tight anyway. That’s been my experience.

  • As soon as their beautiful little round belly pops the tape LOL or you feel it is too tight… Just get a pack of the next size in, and you will know by instinct when to go up. If the nappy leaves red welts everywhere, you have left them in too small a size for too long x

  • I’m still figuring this out too. When they leak a lot? I’m getting close to the next size up and we use the bigger size for night time ( but not during the day as it costs more)!
