  • If in doubt about the cause of brown grass or any issues with garden and lawn; advice and support from a local garden nursery can be so helpful. There are often fact sheets and information available too for customers to refer to and apply the techniques to their own garden and lawn.

  • You might need a pro to come in and look at your yard. It could be many factors, the soil, the kind of grass you were looking at getting, how dry your yard is, or if it gets water logged. A friend built in a new area, old swap land, and their yard had very little run off and flooded every time it rained. They had to just tile the entire area

  • It often depends on the type of grass that has been chosen and grown in a yard. We chose grass that is drought tolerant and does not need a huge amount of water. The grass does look less green and browns in the warmer months but also requires less maintenance too which is a bonus.

  • We dont have grass as we are definitely not the ones to maintain it! But gosh sorry to hear about your situation. I know there are some fantastic green/grass group chats on facebook you can join. They have some amazing people that can assist in giving you suggestions and feedback too!

  • While I am comfortable looking after plants, but grass seems to be whole other matter.

  • We are literally in the same boat! Our neighbour has great grass, they did the whole dig it all up, replenish the soil and lay new turf down. They also have sprinklers set on timers and they use mulch on their mowing machine to keep feeding the lawn. It works wonders

  • We have never ever been able to grow grass. We got a landscape designer to look at it, and he told us that even though he hates artificial grass, he had to recommend it to us, as the soil around our house was such that we’d never be able to grow real grass. So I’d seek expert advice TBH.

  • Maybe ask some advise by a garden center or Bunnings ?
It could be an option to sow some new lawn seeds. It would probably be a good idea to first remove all the old grass (and roots ! ) and top layer. Add soil and nutrients and make sure to make it level and then sow new seeds, covering it with some more soil, water frequently and don’t walk on it for a couple of weeks.
