Hello!

My little man has just cut two teeth (6.5 months) The issue I am having is he is biting during feeds, at first it was just at the end of the feed so i would delatch him when he started to just comfort suck, now it is all the time, he is latched properly just slips quickly so delatching and reattaching wont help, i have tried bonjella before a feed, massaging gums, etc saying no and taking him off and walking away but nothing is working. I dont want this to be the end of my Breastfeeding journey but i now have a bruised nipple … any advice appreciated!

  • Try saying no , and using a cold teething ring for him.

  • I used to detach and sit them up and forcefully say “NO” this would then result in them crying and me pretty much ignoring the cry for 30 seconds and then puttign them back in the feeding position….all 3 of my kids learnt very quickly that it was a negative thing to bite so they stopped doing it.

  • Its sad when you want to keep breast feeding and they get teeth and don’t understand not to bite, I guess all you do is keep taking him off the breast when he bites and say no biting, and try again. Also giving him something to chew on before( cold teething ring etc) might help. Goodluck

  • We are at the same age. Thankfully just taking him off and saying no has worked but it was touch and go there for a while. Now that the first two are through, it has gotten easier. Hope the same proves true for you.

  • Hopefully it wont last long! Get yourself some Rite Aid Hydrogel Breast Disc – they are like a wound dressing that are soothing and healing (not expensive and available from pharmacies) They saved me when I started feeding and also when my son bit!

  • I was told to give mine something hard and cold to chew on before a feed but that didn’t always help.

  • Hopefully you get some great answers. I didn’t really do anything except taking my boob away when he started biting. He soon learned if he bit down he would stop being fed lol.
