It’s also worth mentioning that op shops are great for finding things that you really don’t want to spend alot of money on because they are only going to be used once. For example, we went to a wedding earlier this year and needed suits for our two boys, we managed to get two very nice black suits for $15 total. The previous owner probably used them once or twice and then had no need of them. Definitely worth going to for one off outfits or costumes
I have noticed that there seems to be an influx of items donated to op shops at particular times of the year. I remember going to one particular op shop after Christmas and they were overloaded with items and some of them were unwanted Christmas gifts. Maybe people were also cleaning out their homes during the Summer holidays.
Like most things, it pays to shop around. Some op shops are better than others. I shops in affluent suburbs tend to be a little more pricey but can have more brands names. I find it good for general things, great for daycare clothes, DVDs and adult clothing for the average person. If you’re an unusual size, harder to find nice things.
Although I don’t shop there often these days, I have always been able to find some great quality things at budget prices. I have friends who only buy clothes etc from op shops and they always look amazing.
I’ve grown up op shopping and when I was a kid I really enjoyed it. My husband doesn’t like it and makes me feel dirty whenever I go lol you can get awesome buys and brand new stuff people just didn’t want but sadly our local op shop does all the sorting now so they charge an arm and a leg for anything designer. Even big w stuff is getting pricier and may aswell be bought new
Some of shops can be great and others really aren’t. I have been to a couple in my time but personally I have never found anything that wonderful. Some of my friends have found some great things. I think it is just pure luck if you do find something worth buying. I think picking the right location is always helpful too.
Op shops vary from place to place and location is a big factor. I like to go to op shops in small towns rather than big ones and hunt about and find bargains. The prices vary from store to store and they are not as cheap as they used to be years ago due to a number of factors. Quality varies too and there is enough in stores that you can be selective.
It does vary a lot from op shop to op shop, and it also depends on what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for average everyday things, then you’re probably not really going to find a bargain. But if you’re looking for something a little bit unusual, then yes, you often can find great stuff at good prices.
Whaaaat?! Oh my goodness, you are in for a treat! I have found some of my favourite things in op shops. The first pair of jeans I ever loved. When I was pregnant I found soooooo many high quality, expensive items of baby clothing for $1-2. Hand bags. Tchotchkes. books. I just recently found a wonderful cook book from Longreach with country recipes brand new for $3. More well to do suburbs tend to have expensive brand clothing. Happy hunting!!
