Hello!

My eldest has just turned 13, and I’m organising his birthday party. His friends feel a bit too old for the sort of small novelties I used to put in party bags. Of course, I don’t want to spend a fortune on the bags either. What do other people do? Do you just give them a small bag of food treats, or do you include some small item – and if you include a non-food item, what? The party is a pool party at home. Thanks!

  • I had girls so it was easy. Things like lip balm, hair ties, pens, note pads, bath bombs, etc

  • I love the idea of party bags for all ages. I’m 30 and still love a good old party bag. Maybe a small pool inflatable each

  • Don’t worry about party bags at that age, I’m sure they will enjoy the party without needing that extra addition

  • I honestly wouldn’t worry about party bags at that age 🙂

  • I never did a party bag at that age.

  • I wouldn’t stress about a party bag for that age either. But if you wanted to, you could grab a cute tumbler with a straw from Kmart and a matching nail polish for them. Kind of ties in with a summer/pool theme and gives them something practical

  • I feel like teen boys miss out on this, teen girls are easy with little bags filled with things like face masks, nail polish, lip gloss and what not.

  • I did a make your own lolly bag for my daughter.
I set up a table with lollies and girly bits n prices then each girl got a special bag and got to pick the things they wanted.
    Google lolly buffet table.
It was amazing and they all loved it

  • I’m with majority here, I dont think party bags are necessary for teens. I had no clue as to what to put in them either

  • They wouldn’t want a bag they are not young ones that enjoy that same goes for cake as I got ice cream cake for birthday cake which they all liked.

  • I wouldn’t worry about party bags but I’m sure they’d be stoked with just food.

  • I wouldn’t do a party bag, but maybe take home a piece of cake or cupcake.

  • I don’t think at that age they would care for anything, especially if they’re boys.
If they were girls I would suggest a cupcake or personalised cookie.

  • I used to give them a container with a piece of the birthday cake (if there was any left) otherwise they never seemed to expect anything. Again it depends on how many are going to be there.

  • We didn’t bother with party bags for my teens party. I think they are a little old for party bags at that stage

  • At that age they don’t really care for things like that. We usually offer a piece of cake to take home, even if they’ve already had some, just to get rid of it so we didn’t eat too much lol

  • I wouldn’t include a party bag. But you could give out glow sticks, teens always love these and maybe photo props for selfies.

  • Maybe an iced cookie individually wrapped rather than a party bag?

  • Kids will still love to receive small treat to take home.

  • I don’t think you need to do anything. I’d be surprised if a teen expected anything either.
