Perimenopause - Mouths of Mums

Hello!

I have been going through pre – menopause for a few years now but I am finding it really hard some days. The brain fog and the ability to look like an idiot at work out of no where is starting to get to me. I am an intelligent woman but boy oh boy some days, I just can’t get it together and call people the wrong name when i know there name, can’t remember things – the list goes on. How does everyone else who is going through this manage. It is hard going through this stage.

  • It really can be a very difficult and demanding stage to go through and the symptoms and issues evolve over time and understanding from everyone is so necessary and needed. Many workplaces are far better than they used to be at understanding peri menopause and menopause and other issues related to female health.

  • I have always been upfront about the symptoms because quite frankly some have been very hard to disguise and women should not have to hide anything to do with perimenopause and menopause. I have found everyone to be very understanding and it is quite common for everyone to discuss it and also be considerate.

  • I’d let your workmates know what you are going through and I am sure you’ll find support and then they can just ignore any hiccups. My workmates were wonderful. Try not to stress and focus on it. Make sure you are getting enough sleep and down time.

  • I tried a non formal product new to market called veoza. It was a life saver with the flushes and constant dripping sweats. Without it I’m a walking mess.

  • I started peri menopause when I was 38 and it was horrible. My Dr gave me HRT. Silly me didn’t ask any questions about it. But once I thought I was finished with menopause I found out that all the years you’re on HRT you go through it again for all those years. So I went through it virtually 2 times. I was so angry with myself. So I really suggest doing your homework before taking HRT. There are natural products you can buy to help with your symptoms but all in all you just have to ride it out. It’s so much fun being a woman. Isn’t it? Not!

  • It can be tough going through this stage indeed. One of the things that helped me was just share with those who may be impacted by how you feel and perform. That way you allow understanding and sympathy. Don’t make too much of a big deal of calling people by the wrong name, just something like “oopsie, my brain is foggy” is fine.
Practicing calm, mindfulness, yoga or meditation to cope with mood swings can be helpful
