Hello!

I’m currently 23 weeks and have just been diagnosed with major placenta previa (fully covering my cervix). Doctor isn’t convinced it will move. Has anyone else experienced complete previa and have it move in time? Or those who haven’t I’d love to read experiences.

  • Im glad you gave an update but I would love to hear how the birth experience was for you??

  • Thank you all for your responses! Just an update… I’m now 34 weeks and my placenta has moved and is no longer blocking. It is however low lying and needs to move out the way a little bit more for me to have a natural birth.

  • Cant help with advice but sending you best wishes.

  • I know people who had it and it moved but they will keep scanning and checking and don’t be afraid to ask the Doctors and the nurses about details you’re concerned with.

  • Not complete but mine moved. Good luck, I hope it moves for you.

  • No, sorry, but I had a different problem with my placenta. My general advice would be to monitor it carefully and take medical advice seriously.

  • I never had this personally. Are there any gentle excercises that can be done?

  • A friend did and it moved. I don’t know if there is something you can do about it but just wait and think about baby and the excitement of meeting him/her :)

  • I had partial (not full) for two of my pregnancies and it moved enough for a natural birth both times. However, even if yours doesn’t I’m sure you and bubs will be in great hands and totally fine. Hugs :)

  • Never experienced this myself that I know of – you have certainly got some good advice from the posts though.

  • I haven’t experienced this – just wishing you a safe and joyful birthing experience and a healthy baby :)

  • My friend had it which resulted in a caesarean with the safe delivery of a beautiful, healthy girl.

  • I have had it twice. First time full bed rest (in hospital from 32-34weeks), it then moved and I had a natural birth (spontaneous) at 36weeks.
2nd time, it was complete (at 20weeks) with no change/movement at the follow up scan at 34weeks. Had to have a C-section (given the risk of going into labour). 2nd time round was a lot harder to have rest so having the scheduled C-section was the safest option.
My advice would be rest if you can. And always go in for an extra check up if you feel any need! Goodluck mumma

  • Both my mother and I experienced partial placenta previa, and it moved up for both of us which was hoped and expected. I hope yours does move up against the odds otherwise I’m sure you’ve already been told to take it easy especially if you have spotting.

  • I had placenta previa with my last pregnancy. It didn’t look good to move for a while and they monitored me closely, but by 32 weeks it had moved to the right position and I got to try a natural birth. I hope it doesn’t cause you too much stress, look after yourself.
