Plane activities - Mouths of Mums

Hello!

I am taking my daughter on a plane soon and would love some ideas of things I could take on the plane to keep her entertained as we have two flights which will take the entire day to travel

  • It is often a very good idea to have a fun shopping trip prior to any travel and assist children with looking for and choosing activities that will be engaging on a plane. Children have to be interested and engrossed in activities because some flights can indeed be very long.

  • I found that my kids really enjoy anything that has things like stickers or Colouring in pages or even activities like find the word or going through the maze, trying to find the exit of the maze. The other thing you could try the thing on the age is the puppets.

  • Small playdough containers, mini colouring books, fidget toys, magnetic snakes and ladders or other board games are great too.

  • There is always plenty of online entertainment on board flights but it is also very wise to have a bag with other activities. Drawing and colouring and other similar hands on activities are so important for keeping children engaged. Lightweight books and magazines are also terrific for keeping children occupied and educated during long flights.

  • I think it totally depends on the age of the child and what they are into. My kids loved reading so it was always easy. Mini games like snakes & ladders are good but someone else has to want to put up with playing too. Little ones colouring or ( I hate to say it) video games. or movies.

  • I made a rookie mistake last time and didn’t pack anything as we didn’t have room. Most airports have a whs smith or newsagency there now. I popped in and got some colouring and activity books, they also had some with magic pens that change colour, dolls and card games. This kept us occupied the whole flight

  • You don’t share the age of your daughter and whether the flight are international or not. At international flights you can always watch movies and games during the flight and food and snacks are provided and you can request diary preferences or requirements. On domestic flights you don’t have the movies and the food most of the time.
I always packed a small backpack with some activities; jigsaw reading books when the kids were younger and mess free colouring books with the invisible textures provided, when slightly older we always had a word search books, mini games such as ludo yatzee and scrabble, a book to read and colouring material. And of course their own iPad with plenty of games and a charging cord.

  • Will definitely depend on the age range to what might be best. Does the flight have decent inflight entertainment? I’ve had flights with excellent movies, shows and music to keep me happy. If you have a switch or portable gaming device that would be great. Or some colouring books and texters.

  • Depending on age I would suggest iPad with all their favourite movies (downloaded preflight haha we learnt that the hard way) otherwise ink free water colouring books are always a winner for us with our daughter
And all else fails snack snacks snacks always a great way to distract during a flight hahaha

  • It depends on the age of your daughter, but for younger children I’d recommend the Wow Water Magic Paint books (colouring pages using a brush and water), pop it fidget toys, travel size magnadoodle, a few sheets of paper to make paper airplanes or chatterbox/cootie catcher and crayons to colour on them, or small toy figurines or finger puppets. Recommend bringing some new toys or putting them away before the trip so she hasn’t played with them in a long time and the novelty will mean they will be more entertaining!

  • Hey lovely! I’ve flown many times with my littles ones while babies and toddlers! Including from SYD – London. I recommend stickers (so they can stick on a book), colouring pencils, the magic pens that can colour paper but not the plane or themselves. And fidget toys, that they can play with and aren’t very loud🤍
