  • I would try putting the knickers on over the nappy and then slowly try eliminating the nappy after a little while – maybe have her pick out her new knickers so she can be excited about wearing them too?

  • remember they all get there at some point and they don’t need added parent stress.

  • Dedicate a tough love day to focus on toilet training. I said all pull-ups gone. Knickers on.
Potty always nearby. Always be positive always keep going. After a ver very long day she finally weed in potty and was proud of herself. Trust me she was ready we both just got lazy. It’s all about staying home on a focus day!!

  • Well I’ve done that a while ago and she has come far pretty quickly. Just having an accident every second day I spose. So proud!!

  • Take her to the shops and let her choose some with a cute pattern offer special treats like lollies and stickers. Try getting a book explaining potty training

  • Hi, i agree with making it exciting and letting her choose her own knickers, although at 3 1/2 years old i definitely believe that she should be told she maybe ‘doesnt fit them any more’ or another story where she can not argue what you have told her. My daughter is 4 and very agreeable after she knows she has no other option to say no. if she thinks she has a choice she will definately argue with me so i just remove the choice and its easier. You are the boss :) i know i was lucky with her as she was ready on her own by 2 1/2 from night time nappies but every child has their own time. i prepared for the accidents with mattress protectors. Little ones love independence and they move on quickly. i also had a reward chart where she got stickers to help the frog from one lily pad to the finish line and others. There are free printable toilet training sites online such as http://www.pottytrainingconcepts.com/CTGY/FREE-Potty-Training-Charts.html

    Good luck!

  • I would try pull ups. They protect clothing but she will feel wet when she has wee’d and hopefully wont like the feeling.
Or get her to choose some knickers out for herself.
    Good luck.

  • Huggies has a training pack with a poster and stickers!

  • maybe take a break from toilet training and revisit it a bit later.
sounds like she may not be ready yet.
or maybe give her a book to read while she is on the potty or something to distract her,put her favourite programme on.

i use to put our child on the potty with cake mix left over as i had just baked a cake, she loved it

  • keep the potty in sight so she gets used to it, be persistent in asking her if she would like to try it, if she says no then it is no big deal.

Tell her that big girls/princesses/whatever use the potty

Try to get her used to sitting on it with nappy on. You can demonstrate and pretend to push out a poo and proceed to take it to the toilet, say that poo goes in the toilet, say bye bye poo and flush. She might relax if you demonstrate the process so it is not scary to her. Get her to join you in waving bye

Encourage the heck out of her if she does want to sit on the potty with her nappy on and then get her to try it without nappy. If she only sits for half a sec, praise her and encourage her to sit for longer next time

Don’t stress! Don’t force her, try to be positive and if you treat it like it isn’t a stressful thing, hopefully she will too

Being a bit older, she will be able to transition to the toilet easier and will be able to let you know when she needs to use it. (when she gets to this point)

You will get there! She just needs to be able to handle her business before she goes to school and there is no rush!

  • Bribery just to get them on! Cut a deal as a special initiation into wearing pants or give her a new big girl toy which goes with wearing undies.

Or cut the guts out of a nappy so that it’s just the lining maybe?
    It’s a hard one

  • When toilet trained my now 3.5 yr old daughter, I put pull ups on her with knickers over the top during the night for a few weeks then started it during the day and let her know that it was great to wear pretty things and also had the free wall chart from pull ups with stickers for her achievements that she put on the chart and asked her each of the sections ie: did you need help with going to the toilet from mum/dad etc. it was great fun for all of us and showed her that it was a BIG girl thing..

  • It may be that you little girl gdoesn’t like the feeling of knickers against her skin. Maybe some that are one bigger than you are trying to get her to wear. We have had fights with getting knickers on. You may have to be firm and keep telling her to put her leg in – I know it’s hard and others are going to disagree with me but she has to learn that you are boss, not her. Wh had to do it as she was refusing to co-operate elsewherea and she is a lot better and toilet training is improving. For every dry pair of knickers when she goes to the toilet in time she is getting a star as encouragement at the moment.

  • I agree that you should take your daughter shopping to choose her undies.
Then maybe try to put the undies and nappy on as well, just to get in the routine of undies being on. If they are under the nappy, your daughter will begin to learn how they feel, hopefully allowing you to transition out of the nappy some times.
And I think to let her go nappyless when you are at home.
My son went from hating undies to hating us putting a nappy on him at night (he’s still in the nighttime one but is so close to not needing it).
    Good luck.

  • Thank you for your honest advice girls. I know I’m losing this battle, I just haven’t been able to admit it-til now. I need new and more disciplined attack plan!!

  • Try to ask her to wear them. Tell her she is doing you a favour and ask her to help mummy out. Reward when she says yes, accept no always. It has become a battle not training anymore and you are losing. Also check that there are no health issues that might prevent her from holding her urine as she might not know when she needs to go then wets herself. Wet, cold and embarrassing

  • Maybe take her shopping and let her pickout some pretty undies in her size, this might persuade her to actually where them.

  • Thanx, I have been using a huggies toilet training chart, training pants. And huggies pull ups with princess pictures-expensive!! I’m thinking I may have to put nothing on her at all and keep her at home until she gets there. It’s just myself n my daughter so it’s gonna be a hard run.. Thanks so much for your advice. Appreciated :-)

  • Oh how hard :( haven’t been through this myself (yet) but I received an email from huggies about toilet training tips – you could check their site. Have you tried pull ups? I saw some undies at big w in the toilet training section that are in between cloth nappes/pilchers/undies – I think they were called training pants. Maybe try a reward chart?
