Hello!

“What age is best for braces? My son is 13 but I have been told his teeth will probably move again anyway so is there a recommended age? Have any other mums heard this?” Any thoughts as to the right age for braces?

  • The best person to give you the correct information would be a dentist. 13 yr olds grow at different rates and their jaws could still be a child’s size, or grown into adult sized.

  • My ten year old has a plate, but probably won’t be given braces till he’s about 13. My 12 year old is about to get braces.

  • Usually at age 12 or 13, but it depends on what your dentist thinks.

  • yeah that seems like the right age

  • Speak to the dentist. They would be able to tell you how developed your son’s mouth is.

  • how did you go, what did the dentist recommend?

  • you should ask the dentist

  • Your family dentist would be the best one to advise. I was 13 when I had mine and only had to have them for a year

  • Hope things worked out well

  • Once they have all their adult teeth. I got braces when I was 13. Also get a 2ND opinion.

  • Check with the orthodontist .They can help you

  • I’d say the orthodontist would know best. If you’re worried you could get a second opinion.

  • I think it depends on the child n their teeth

  • As for the moving teeth that is definitely true, especially if the wisdom teeth are yet to come up. Your best bet would be to visit the dentist / orthodontist and have X-Rays taken and ask their advice on what would be the best time.

  • Teenager I reckon. That’s when I had mine

  • I had them on when I was 13 . It all went well.

  • orthodontists know when its the right time, sometimes they leave it a little later to see if the teeth correct themselves naturally.

  • I think my son may need them eventually even though he is only 6

  • My daughter is twelve and they are talking about giving her braces as well. Your orthodontist will be able to give you all the options. My daughter needs them because her bottom teeth actual touch the gum behind her top teeth which can be a real issue. Good luck, you can always go for a second option if you need to.

  • 15-18 years old I meant to say
