Don’t rush, there’s always enough time for that ! This is my son when he was 4 yrs old

This is so personal. I waited until it was clearly starting to bother my son – getting in his eyes – before he had his first haircut. Maybe 18 months? I can’t remember exactly.

As long as it’s clean and manageable and not annoying him and not making him look like a girl lol

The longer you wait, the harder it will be. Do it!

If its in his eyes take him. Otherwise ifs its not bothering him wait until you feel the time is right.

Mine has curls too, and everyone keeps telling us not to cut it. Infrequently he is mistaken for a girl. I did trim his fringe (as always in his eyes), no one noticed.

Don’t go until you are ready!
When you are ready, explain to the hair dresser that this is the first hair cut & they will make you feel very at ease & be patient with your child.
As long as your child is not suffering from head aches or anything from the hair then there is no rush.
Curls look so cute on children I don’t blame you, I wouldn’t want to cut them either!

It’s entirely up to you. We took my son when he was called a girl by a few people (even when wearing blue) – so I decided it was time to give him a boys hair cut. His curls never grew back. And they certainly look more grown up after a hair cut. At 14 months I would hold off a bit longer.

Its hard to say but i would wait a little longer!

THis is entirely your choice. no one can make it for you. What you can do when you do cut his hair is tell the hairdresser that you want to keep a few curls and they will cut them off for you so you can keep them.

Melmum – Take a small toy that he can interact with or one of his favourite books.

This is my dilemma too! My son is 2 & was pretty much bald until about 14mths. He now has curls but his hair seems to be annoying him a bit lately too. He is booked in to get a haircut tomorrow afternoon & I am now stressing as I have no idea what to ask for or what he should get, lol. Besides that I don’t think he is going to sit still when he has scissors coming towards him 🙂

I’d keep the curls as you love them and also they are wrigglers so he won’t sit still. Try when he’s 3-4 years old.

Unless he is happy to sit still the whole time I wouldn’t, at that age they are wrigglers so it could end up be a screaming match for him. Get him to used to the idea of haircuts when you go for one yourself or when Daddy has a haircut. Neither of my boys had a proper haircut till they were around 4 years old, if their hair got a bit long I did a quick trim myself.
When the time is right for his haircut then find a hairdresser who is experienced with little kids & has the patience required so he doesn’t become frightened by it.

leave the curls, enjoy it while you can, saves money too, I waited until my son went to kinder.

Don’t do it!! Why do you want to cut off beautiful curls? Bet he looks gorgeous with them.

My son was 19 months when when he had his first haircut, and he screamed and carried on the whole time, although I think that had more to do with him being strapped into his high chair than the actual hair cutting. The second time was just after his second birthday and he was quite blase at first then he kept wanting to turn his head and see what the person cutting his hair was doing.

It’s entirely what you are comfortable with. I would also be aware of how well he sits still. .. With super sharp scissors near his face and ears that might be your deciding factor. I just cut my 26mo at home. Not awesome job. .. but it’s free and it passes as a hair cut. I think.
