Hello!

Should I be worried about having our dog and our baby sleeping in the same room? It can’t jump in to the cot but someone said it can cause allergies later. I haven’t noticed any problems.

  • I am a mom of 14 months old and 3 fur babies and I feel the luckiest sharing my love among them:) Trust me, you will keep hearing a lot of advices to keep your baby away from your dog. They can sleep in the same room however you may need to do a regular cleaning to ensure there is not too much of hair or dirt on the floor. No, sleeping with dogs in the same room does not cause allergies. Infact, having a dog during your pregnancy, lowers the risk of allergies in the new born:) So just ensure to maintain the basic hygiene and make sure that your dog bonds with your baby in your presence. Enjoy this wonder bond which your baby and your dog are going to share while growing up:)

  • I would not have them sleeping in the same room simply as a precautionary measure.

  • I think you’ll find the best way to avoid allergies is by exposure. As long as the dog cannot get into the cot/bassinet in way shape or form, I can’t see a problem. A week old baby has just been attacked in the parents bedroom by the family dog, so be careful

  • Allergies work in particular ways-I suggest you research allergies and the causes of allergies. It may help?

  • i think having babies around pets is a great way to build up their immune system and to build a friendship between them

  • We never had any issue with allergies and had two dogs sleeping in the same room as us and our baby. As long as the dog can’t get into the cot or bassinet, I don’t see that there should be any issues.

  • I have two dogs, a staffy and little fluffy thing. When I had bubs (she’s now 20m) they all slept in our room. My LO was in her bassinet of course. I have never had any issues and now the her and the staffy are best of friends. She’s had no allergy problems what so ever and rarely gets sick.
