Hello!

Are sponges and dish cloths hygienic to use? I often wonder whether the sponges and dish cloths I’m using are hygienic. What can I do to make sure they are safe?

  • I use mine so much they don’t last long enough to get germs and l rinse them very well.

  • Clean well after use and make sure they dry out properly.

  • No, actually, they aren’t tge best. Rinse regularly in clean hot soapy water and zap in microwave daily

  • They have been known to harbour lots of bacteria. I zap mine in the microwave for 2 mins every few days

  • Wash them thoroughly after use, and change them often.

  • You can buy special antibacterial sponges for the kitchen,as they are a breeding ground for germs the regular ones.

  • This is interesting reading the comments on this!

  • It depends how long you have used them for and what you have used them for. I have seen people periodically bleach them, hand wash in detergent, put in the dishwasher or replace them.

  • good question. I know use clothes, like the e- cloths and wash them frequently

  • I change them everyday and may use several a day depending on the use 🙂

  • I put sponges in the microwave for 2 minutes at high temperature. In particular after having washed cutting boards where I cut raw meat.

  • I use dish cloths; I have an enormous roll of them and change it weekly.

  • i change mine every day like you are meant to

  • Change and wash it regularly 🙂

  • I throw kitchen sponges out weekly, and disinfect them overnight every night. And I have different sponges for different uses in the kitchen.

  • Different clothes for different jobs, cleaned and disinfected regularly, changed regularly and we dry them out daily

  • They need to be washed or replaced regularly. Sponges and cloths are an ideal breeding ground for bacteria.

  • i dont know the answer there

  • to disinfect the sponges, put the in microwave for 1 minute on high
