Star Wars fans is Chewbacca a boy or a girl?

My sons were mad Star Wars fanatics and hubby and I like them too. I don’t think my 2 lovely girls were quite as keen as the boys were. Someone asked me one day if Chewy was a boy or girl. lol! Do you know?

I too thought he was male. Interesting to read that the character was based on a female.

I’ve always thought of him as being male, but it us hard to know exactly what bits are under all that fur :/

Chewbacca is a male. The character was based on a female Alaskan malamute!
