Hello!

My daughter is 3 months now and she loves to lick/suck her hands all the time during wakeful phase. I was wondering if it’s alright? Thanks

  • Your baby could be chewing their hand for many reasons, from simple boredom to self-soothing, hunger, or teething. Regardless of the cause, this is a very common behavior that most babies exhibit at some point during their first months of life

  • I hope it was only a phase.

  • All my kids did this and they have thankfully grown out if the habit.

  • Yep it’s okjust discovering her hands. Can

  • Wakeful phase LOL what an unusual word group… This is a hard one, as often these types of behaviour are habit forming. My GF’s daughter use to bite her hand, and now, at 18yo has a scar the shape of her bubba and young self mouth on her hand.

  • I would try distraction method ,or talk to Health care workers

  • I found when my son did this, his hands became red raw. I ended up putting nipple balm on them to soothe and replace moisture and putting mittens over the top. It was only a phase that lasted about 2 months for my son.

  • I think its normal for that age!

  • there are some good comments here

  • yeah should be fine 🙂

  • She’s three months old…what else has she got te entertain herself with?

  • It is a natural self-soothing strategy. It’s fantastic that she is doing it.

  • Perfectly fine! My son never took to a dummy so he often sucked his hands/thumb for comfort. People tried to tell me it would set him up for a very bad habit and it was definitely not the case.

  • My 6 month old does it. My PH nurse told me it’s a way for them to self-soothe

  • Yes

  • Completely normal 🙂

  • Is she dribbling alot ?

  • All babies do that it’s totally fine 🙂

  • Its fine and as long as she isn’t sucking the skin off, it shouldn’t cause any concern. Give her a teething ring maybe?

  • Completely normal she’s found them now so they will go in her mouth ! Wait until it’s everything within her reach lol
