  • Dad started in a cricket field with me. Stopping and starting. Stopping and starting. I learnt to drive a manual by taking it step by step.

  • pay for lessons best money ever spent

  • I would check out; http://www.racv.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/racv/Internet/Primary/my+car/drive+school/keys2drive
It should be available in most states. The page says:

RACV is involved in keys2drive, an Australia wide federally funded education program providing a free one hour driving lesson to all learner drivers and their supervisor. The program is designed to make newly licensed drivers safer on the road.

RACV Drive School instructors are accredited to deliver the free one hour lesson to all learner drivers and their supervisors.

  • I found it easiest have my daughters to have my daughters take quite a few driving lessons and then went on a driving lesson with them. As a result I found the experience quite easy. Good luck

  • You can start teaching her first but you will still need a few from private instructor

  • Start off with afew private lessons from a qualified instructor.

  • I have three children…twins and not much gap, we joke that we will drive the distance to Perth very slowly over the two years it takes to get their hours up…. 🙁

  • Ha, Ha, Have fun. Seriously, show them the basics, You can take them out to an empty car park ( eg tafe college at weekends) to practise basic steering, turning, stopping etc. Then book a few lessons with an instructor. This will save you a lot of angst and nerves. In between lessons, you can take them for a drive. It is amazing at how quickly they pick things up with an instructor, well worthwhile. Then a couple of finishing touch lessons with the instructor just before they go for a licence.

  • I would recommend the first few lessons with an instructor. Sometimes driving with a parent can be stressful for the child learning to drive and also most parents aren’t aware of all the current rules and are old school when it comes to technique which can get them confused and cause more arguments if they are told something else by instructor, will also stop them from getting into bad habits. I would also suggest a defensive driving course!

  • Seriously I would invest in at least the first 5 lessons from a professional driving school and then allow the extra lessons from yourself. They are insured you have to make sure the child is on your insurance otherwise you will have a very hefty bill.
