  • Make padicles. Grab some maternity pads, soak them in a little water and freeze them. You can also use a little witch hazel for antibacterial & after sun gel for cooling. Otherwise frozen water works well too,

  • Exposing the stitches to fresh air can help the healing process. Taking off your underwear and lying on a towel on your bed for around 10 minutes once or twice a day may help. It’s unusual for pain after an episiotomy to last longer than 2 to 3 weeks.
To make it heal faster, the same methods that work for regular tears will help you heal: sitz baths, ice packs, witch hazel and anesthetic sprays. Simply exposing the area to air, too, can help it heal more quickly and with less pain.

  • I didn’t experience pain with my episiotomy. I was recommended to squat in a bowl of warm salted water a couple of times a day. To speed up healing, keep the are dry and clean

  • I became really swollen after my first. Ice, ice and more ice. Salt baths are great too.

  • Good episiotomy care tips from the mums. Soft and padded underwear is also most helpful.

  • I had one and those wet flushable wipes were a God send. Provided cooling sensation and also not harsh like toilet paper. Also I found sitting in the bath for 10 mins with salt helps too.

  • Warm water and salt does help and a warm rubber inflatable ring to sit on for support and relief. Any other ideas for when out and about.

  • Can’t really advice you on that as I didn’t have any episiotomy’s.

  • I had an episiotomy with my first bub. Can’t say I experienced any pain tho. Regular pain relief meds would help. I remember I was told to mix up a solution of warm water and salt and sit in that for 10 mins daily.
