Hello!

Tips on how to keep breastfeeding & return to work? – Are there any mums out there who have gone back to work after a few months and kept breast feeding? I understand that I’d need to express milk for when I’m not home but I was wondering what other mums did. I’d like to keep breastfeeding as well as express. Also will I leak like crazy at work?

  • Yes bring the pump to work and pump on times you normally breastfeed. Keep up the breast feeding at home.

  • pump while at work and freeze some as extra supply

  • Take the pump to work with you and express there if you do leak. Usually, the boobs get into a routine and know when you’ll be wanting milk, so they hold off until then

  • As an Australian law, your work must provide you with time to express and a room to express in, as well as a fridge to put the milk in, so that you can express at work, then if you would like to still breastfeed you can do it at night

  • Just pump instead of when you would feed or if that doesn’t fit in with work you could probably get away with one session in the day – say lunch time. I pumped for 7 mths. During the day and an extra one at night after she was in bed. With the weekends I still did the extra pump at least once per day (usually night) and that helped build up a stock. Work out how many feeds she will need whilst you are at work and start working on building that up, it may also determine how much / many time you need to pump a day to keep enough bottles filled. I had a great frozen supply and my midday pump would be enough for 2 bottles.

  • How did you go? I hope you were successful

  • An electric pump is a must and bamboo nursing pads.

  • After the first 6 months you should be able to express well and not experience the same amount of leakage, I just use some bamboo nursing pads

  • my problem is leaking. if i didnt feed my baby my breasts would leak everywhere . You can express but u would have 2 do this in your lunch break. this might be hard ? let us know how u went

  • there are some good comments here

  • how did it go ?

  • How did you end up managing?

  • how did it go? :)

  • if it is possible to also express at work then you won’t leak as much

  • How are you going with work and breastfeeding now?

  • Make sure you pack stacks of breast pads

  • Good luck with what you choose

  • Hope all is going well. It certainly is a juggling act

  • Hope you found some good advice below.

  • This is really difficult to continue doing while working and puts a lot more stress on you, I hope you are able to do it.
