Hello!

Hello! I think I have possible tried absolutely everything possible. How do I remove the fridge smell?

Also can anyone tell me how to search for posts? I have a few things around the house I have not been able to find answers for but I don’t want to bother anyone if there is already a question about it.

  • There is a search button above right I am not sure if it works on all areas. For the fridge I always pull everything out – food, shelves, drawers etc and wash it with hot soapy water. Then I wipe all white surfaces (not glass) with Vanilla Essence and it smells lovely for ages. You can always put a little bowl of vanilla in a back corner.

  • I keep a small container of bi carb soda in the fridge and have not found the fridge has a smell anymore. I also try to cover foods when they are put in the fridge .

  • I wipe the fridge down with a mixture of water and vanilla essence ( a few drops is usually all you need) to start with a fresher base. And then, I put a small dish of baking soda in the back of the fridge. I change it once a week to keep it working.

  • I use a little dish and fill with Bi Carb Soda and keep that in the back of my fridge. I always make sure that everything that is placed in the fridge is in a sealed container. Open cans of stuff must be transferred into glass sealed containers. This helps with smells and drying out stuff just placed into the fridge. I hate when I see a half opened can of soup or beans or Tuna just returned to the fridge and not contained with a lid or gladwrap! You can buy at Coles and Woolworths Fridge Deodorisers usually in the aisle where you buy Kitchen items knives and spoons etc. I also like to pop a small dish of vanilla essence on a back shelf.

  • 1. Mclintocks vanilla fresh
    2. Dishwashing detergent or wipes to wipe shelves and draws clean
    3. Baking Soda
    4. Cut lemon in half and place in fridge
    5. Glen20

  • I wipe my fridge out with straight white vinegar.
I remember my Grandmother had a container in her fridge with holes in it that contained a piece of charcoal which was supposed to absorb smells. I can’t remember what her fridge smelt like but it’s worth a go. Good luck.

  • Thank you. I have recently pulled everything our of the fridge and cleaned it with detergent but it did not remove it.

I am going to try the McLintocks vanilla fridge spray alongside the citrus peels. My fridge should either smell like tarts or cocktails!

Thank you for the tip on how to search, I will try that.

  • i like to keep the skins and peels of any of my citrus fruits, that would be lemon, grapefruit, pomelo, orange, mandarins, etc and pop them in a opened container, leave this at the top shelf of the fridge, it works well for me, some how it absorbs the smells and give the fridge a nice citrus scent, and when the peels are all dried up, just throw it out and change it up. use fresh citrus fruits if you wish, but peels works well.

  • Every 6 months I take all the glass shelves and the crisper drawers out and give them a good scrub with dishwashing liquid and hot water. It isn’t abrasive so I don’t have to worry about damage, and its a powerful stink remover. You can do it in the bath to minimize mess. For smaller cleans, I use McLintocks Vanilla Fresh spray (found at Coles). It smells like you’ve just baked a tray of vanilla muffins. Works wonderfully inside and outside the fridge

  • There is a search function at the top of the page, put in a few words of the topic you want to find and hopefully it will come up with some article suggestions. I have used the search function to find article before but not sure if it includes the forum or not.

To keep my fridge from smelling clean it regularly with bi carb Soda and vanilla and even lemon and remember to clear out old food regularly as I find this is the biggest culprit.
