Hello!

Wondering if any MoM’s had any tips on tonsillitis. My Miss 7, gets reoccurring tonsillitis as a minimum once a month, she is on the waiting list to get them out… but she is allergic to antibiotics (yes all of them all and no she can’t handle them). I was wondering if any MoM’s had ‘home remedies’, we’ve tried a high vitamin C diet (doc recommended it) and gargling salt water. Nothing is working. We use panadol to manage temps and pain relief. Any tips?

  • No remedies but make sure you keep going to the drs / specialists each time to make it more urgent.

  • At least she is on the list to have them removed. Have you tried gargling Listerine? And strepsils have an antibacterial and anaesthetic lolly

  • I never had tonsillitis as the specialist told my mum I WAS BORN WITHOUT THEM!. tHAT IS WHY she could never see them!.

  • Oh no! This is awful! Is there anyway she can be put on the urgent list? I get reoccurring tonsillitis and I was meant to have them out but I chickened out! :/ I’m allergic to penicillin but I am still able to take a form of antibiotics. Have your tried inner health plus also when she does have it try her on the child form of diff lam! Diff lam is amazing, it numbs the throat and really helps take the razor blades away! Best of luck!

  • It might sound crazy but I use to get tonsilities a lot too and so my mum would give me butter methods the big fat ones and tell me to suck on them because then it will slowly take away the pain. Also making sure teeth are brushed really frequently to take away any bugs etc.

  • Hmmm that’s a good question. I had tonsillitis continuously when i was a child but never ended up getting them taken out. I also had trouble with anti-biotics but cant remember what mum used to do. Will ask her and get back to you

  • Try gargling with apple cider vinegar (the one with mother in it) for 20 secs and get it down as far down the back of your throat as possible. I used to get it as a child and missed so much school because of it. This remedy always fixed me up fast though. Good luck!

  • there are some good comments here

  • I say get them out!

  • what about honey and lemon it soothes the throat, gargle asprin, betadine ?

  • Some good advice there below.

  • my daughter had a lot of tonsilitis at around that age too and then she just stopped getting it – no real reason, no change of diet

  • I was the same, and unfortunately the only thing that stopped it was getting them out. Fingers crossed for a short wait!

  • Hopefully it wont be long before they are taken out.

  • I had tonsilitis a lot as a younger child, probably around once a month too, but once I started high school I only had it once or twice. Still got my tonsils!

  • What tips were good for you?

  • Hope you found some tips from the comments below

  • i struggle with tonsilitis this helps……………….. mix half vinegar half water and gargle this 2 times daily as a minimum dont rinse mouth out afterwards. Also boil tooth brush or rinse with boiling water and once sore throat has gone change toothbrush. id look at seeing a herbalist / accupuncturist or natural therapist. Also daily drinking yakult or taking inner health plus to help build her immune system. Maybe enquire about having them removed, minimum once a month is ridiculous to let the poor thing go through.

  • I would have thought if it were recurring the doctors would suggest having them taken out.

  • I used to find warm water, with a spoon of honey and fresh lemon juice really soothing
