At 5 years of age they do understand that it’s expected of them to be out of nappies & using the toilet like all the other children their age, but sometimes it can be a insecurity of having an accident when they are preoccupied that stops them from becoming potty trained. The best way is to make a reward chart that you have to be diligent with, for example, After a whole week of going to the toilet reward them with something special. I know where you’re coming from, other people are way too judgemental! 5 is a bit old to still not be toilet trained, have you had him checked out medically to make sure everything is AOK? Other then that, keep doing what you’re doing. Be encouraging but not pushy
