Yes. We just used a regular toilet with a step stool, and had no particular problems.

Yes, definitely. In fact I had a potty and it didn’t work for us. But when I bought a step stool and child toilet seat, problem solved!

If you could go straight to the step it would be better! My child didn’t like the “big toilet” so we had to start with the potty and then after two weeks I said no we have to use the big toilet (with the seat and steps) but I gave her a treat for using it and now she uses it fine! She never played with the “stuff” in the potty and I would make her walk with me to the toilet to empty it in there so that she knew where it went.. Good luck!

Definitely don’t need a potty. There are plenty of options these days – plastic seats that sit over the regular toilet, or there are even ceramic seats you can fix to your toilet that can be bought from hardware stores. I bought potties for my 3 who toilet trained all at the same time, and they were hardly used.

Well I had 3 boys, I never bought a potty because I couldn\’t see the sense in \’potty training\’ then having to toilet train after they had mastered the potty. The first time was a complete breeze, never a problem. The second and third I spent a lot of time sitting in the toilet doorway reading books and making up stories to pass the time while they \’pondered\’ on the throne. I think it was worth it because as soon as we achieved our goal and did the cheering and running around telling them how well they did, it was job done (pardon the pun). I think the potty is fine for long car trips etc but I preferred to go straight to the loo.

Like you, I could not get my head around the potty thing, so we totally skipped it and went straight to the toilet. It worked wonders with our Big One – it only took 2 weeks for him to “get” it. We had a step and a special toilet seat for him, but he insisted he didn’t need those after a month, so we took it away. He even self-trained the overnight part of toilet training – he was the one who insisted on not needing the overnight nappy a month after we started toilet training and he’s not wet the bed since. It is gross no doubt about it but i used one with my first and will with my second. It’s really convenient. When he was first learning i had it wherever we were playing inside or out so i could remind him to go frequently. We took it in the car when we went out for long drives and even took it to friends places. I stopped using it as soon as possible but it was really handy in the early days.

We skipped the potty and just use the big toilet with seat on top.
We do have a potty that I keep in the car in case of emergencies and she needs me to pull the car over NOW!
But even then, I line it with a nappy bag so it all goes straight in the bag, no mess.

yes it is up to you! some kids are scared of the big toilet but if yours is not, fine! so much easier to deal with

My son never used a potty. He used a character seat that he loved. Get a plastic step (i have seen them at bunnings for a few dollars).
If your child is a boy put a ping pong ball in the bowl to aim at when he is ready to stand.

you dont have to buy a potty, i brought a child seat with a ladder and it has two handles up the top so they can hold on while on toilet… all 3 of my babies used it and learnt real quick. it only cost $13.00 from kmart 6 years ago.

Yes you can my daughter started using the toliet(with a kids seat) at 2.5 without issues. But my son who was 3.5 at the time refused to use a toilet unless it was a little one at the kinder or day care centre. even with a kids seat on the toilet. He needed the potty till he was 4. It really depends on the child.

A potty is a good idea to start it is true, as right height and available for child to use too.
You can also line it with foil inside too,so if job gets done can ‘parcel’ and through away no touching it is true. Or newspaper or tissue (thick enough) to line potty bottom. If all this does not do for you and littly too can also toilet seat and baby stool put in the loo..
