My nephew had his removed at about the same age and I recall it took him a month or two to get back to his “normal” appetite – but its also an age of growth so weight and appetite can go up and down so much.

My son had his done 10 days ago. The sooner your child can eating his normal diet the quicker he will heal. Our turn around was I made some soft peanut paste toast. This was 2 days ago and since then it has began healing very quickly! Almost back to normal eating 😀
Before this he would only have drinks and maybe a mouthful of food per day! He lost 3-4 kg in less then a week! Try push the food about 30mins after pain relief. Just keep asking and encourage any food intake even if it’s only a mouthful here and there!

Yes it takes a while till they are back to their usual self. I certainly kept up with pain relief for quite some weeks, alternating Panadol & Nurofen on advise from the doctor. Unlike previous poster we immediately after the operation started with all foods, this was advised by the doctors in the hospital.
We didn’t see an increase of appetite or weight gain.

My daughter had her tonsils and adenoids removed over a year ago now and it took her over a month to get back on track she was only eating soft type food up until then. Now she is thriving her appetite is good
