Hello!

I need some ideas for a 1&2 year old dress ups, theme Toy Story. The only catch is, I’ve left it too late to order online so need some clever cheap ideas to make something.

  • Woody: Grab a yellow or plaid shirt, blue jeans, and a little red scarf around the neck. Cut out a vest from black-and-white felt or fabric for that cow-print look, and you’re set!

Buzz Lightyear: A white onesie or shirt with some green and purple construction paper taped on can make a quick, recognizable Buzz outfit. For his wings, cut and color cardboard or poster board and attach them to the back with safety pins or Velcro.

Jessie: Similar to Woody, you can use a red hat if you have one, and add some felt fringe to a shirt to get that cowgirl look.

Little Alien: A blue outfit with a green beanie and some googly eyes on top would make an adorable alien look.

  • Just buy the hat and just paint it and also for the boots.

  • Toy story would be fairly easy to do. You need a cow boy hat and boots, flannel shirt, and a neck scarf – are those things you might have to hand? If not, Spotlight tend to have lots of costumes and I would imagine Toy Story should be something they’d stock. Failing that, try Kmart.

  • I got heaps of dress ups off temu and surpringly they’re really good quality. Paid just over 10 bucks each for most of them.

  • Sometimes you can get cowboy hats at dollar stores. Don’t get too elaborate- your kid won’t know the difference!

  • Andy, Woody and Bo are fairly simple. Woody – use jeans, vest, make a star badge,, cowboy hat and boots. Bo – you could make the stick

  • These are always overly expensive and time consuming. Perhaps dress one up as Andy?

  • Just duck down to your local shops. BigW, KMart, Reject Shop, Shiploads, Best and Less all have great costumes

  • Cowboy hat, yellow flannel, jeans, boots, toy snake for ‘theres a snake in my boot’ line. Bonus points writing Andy on the bottom of the boots.

  • Have you checked Pinterest for some ideas?

  • marketplace is great to try

  • Oh dear, I am SO glad dress ups weren’t a big thing when my kids were school age, I’d be hopeless too

  • Check out op shops in your area; they will often have costumes for littles. Also you can always just lean into the country/cowboy vibe with jeans, checkered shirt and a toy horse if you have one.

  • Shouldn’t be too hard to find some toddler dress ups in the shops. Shiploads and The Reject Shop are great, as is KMart

  • Jeans, checkered flannel shirt, wide brim sun hat, you can get socks with a cute matching pattern, I think the shops still sell the kids ride on stick pony’s?
    All the best!

  • Op shops often have second hand costumes and also clothes that could work for a costume.

  • I agree with a flannel shirt and a jeans and maybe you have a cowboy hat in your dress-up box and some boots in your cupboard (may even be rain boots-doesn’t matter). Alternatively can can ask around if you can borrow something ?

  • A visit to a top dollar or smart dollar type shop might be a good idea. They seem to have reasonably priced dress ups and other items that would work for a costume.

  • I’d just go with a flannel shirt and trousers . The cheap shops often have clip on sherriff stars and cowboy hats.

  • check shirt, jeans and boots. you could add some tassels and a cowboy hat. or for buzz light year – cut our wings and cover in foil. foil covered box for helmet. or bonnet, pretty dress and make a parasol or cane for Bo
