Hello!

Planning a road trip and need to pack light and not take the entire contents in the bathroom. Any suggestions/tips on cutting back/condensing self care essentials for travel?

  • Also now a days you can buy sets of small empty bottles at supermarkets & Kmart which you can fill up yourself. It’s cheaper and recyclable

  • Great tips, I would certainly bring a pack of wet wipes as well !

  • I pack the essentials such as shampoo,conditioner,soap,toothpaste,floss,skincare,make-up,suntan lotion, panadol, bandaids, tissues etc. It’s amazing how much we need when we go away!

  • Consider products like face wipes which you toss away, so less space needed as you go through the trip. I swear by Lush’s Godiva shampoo/conditioner bar – compact, no chance of spills, lasts for ages, and it really works.

  • Great idea to share. Lush have a shampoo and conditioner bar that lasts for a year and is smaller than the tubes.

  • Thanks JILLIAN; good tip-zip lock bags. :)

  • Use zip lock bags but definitely share essentials like toothpaste (1 tube for the whole family) shampoo/conditioner. And definitely a small first aid kit. Make sure you also pack the headache tablets as you will need them on a long car trip ( just nothing strong if you’re driving)

  • Fantastic tips; you seem to have the art of packing down! :)

  • When we did our family of 4 six week holiday in Europe (in which we carried backpacks), I did the following to cut back on toiletries – share shampoo/conditioner/soap/toothpaste, even hair product, to save on space. Pack a small of first aid essentials (for aches and pains, stings, cuts). Cull back the make-up to one eye-shadow, two lippies and try and get a couple of foundation samples to save taking a larger size. Good luck with your travelling.
