Hello!

Should I try undies on my son at childcare? This weekend we have made the transition to undies during the day for my 3yo son… He is doing great, but obviously still having a few accidents. Getting less each time though! Tomorrow he is due to go to childcare and I’m not sure if I should send him with a stack of undies & shorts, or just send him in nappies. He has never done anything on the toilet at childcare… I don’t want to rush him, but I don’t want to set him back either? What have other parents done?

  • Maybe send him with a few pairs of undies just in case. And add nappies to his bag as well. Or have you considered the nappy pants?

  • I would say nappie pants are better to make it easier for the carers and also discuss with the centre as every childcare have certain rules especially if they are not toilet trained .

  • you should go ahead, else he wont learn…but yes, make sure you talk to the childcare team as well

  • yeah talk to the daycare as well. i had a friend who had your situation happen and she put her child in nappies at four years old and they told her to stop that because they were trained to deal with the accidents lol she was trying to spare them the pleasure of cleaning up poo off the carpet (why a daycare has carpet,i will never know). they were willing to work with her.

  • yes you should he wont learn if you dont

  • there are some good comments here

  • dont go backwards by putting a nappy on….

  • how did he go if you tried him?

  • I think trying with undies and sending a heap of spares might be the way to go

  • what did you decide? :)

  • What did you end up doing?

  • Try him with undies at day care just bring lots of changes of clothes with him

  • How have you gone with trying him?

  • How did you go with this, has he got the hang of it now?

  • Undies, you don’t want to go back to nappies otherwise you’ll be going backwards

  • Send him undies. Keeping it consistent will be less confusing for him. Let the staff know so they can encourage him.

  • Talk to the staff at daycare about it.

  • I would try them and have some back up pants and nappy as well

  • Definitely keep him in undies. I’m sure you will find that the daycare centre will work closely with you to achieve success. Congratulations, what a massive achievement.

  • Absolutely send him in with his little bag full of fresh undies, you got to keep up with the routine you’ve started at home, all good day care centres are trained to deal with these situations and you will find they will be able to implement good practises which will help your son make the transition more comfortably! And besides he wont be the only child in the toilet training process kids learn from other kids, but my biggest lesson a as parent is being consistent with their routines and sticking to them until desired outcome is achieved the kids benefit from reaching/achieving goals just as we do as adults!!
