Hello!

Hi mums, I am looking to buy a humidifier or vaporizer for our household, but I’m not sure what I should choose. Do I pick warm steam or cool mist when choosing a humidifier or vaporizer? I’ve heard that warm steam is for congestion and cool is for healthy humidity levels/allergies but wanted to see what other mums thought!

If you’ve got any experience with this, we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

  • Loving the answers here. had not thought about the warm mist creating mold spores

  • Warm mist is best for clearing chests and sinuses in my experience

  • I got an aroma bloom for my son, it works great

  • I used to have a vaporiser now I just have diffusers with doterra essential oils in them.
The vaporiser worked well but had to keep it away from little people that’s why I changed to diffusers

  • I use the cool mist in my kids rooms regularly but if they have a really bad cold or stuffy noses I run the warm one in the house during the day with the eucalyptus and set it up for bedtime.

  • Warm & cold do the same job but warm humidifiers tend to create an environment that creates mould spores with the machine which then can distribute that in the mist. I have a cool mist vaporiser and works great. No it doesn’t warm up a room which sucks in the coolest part of winter, but thankfully seq doesn’t get too cold and I can just rug up more

  • I prefer warm but generally use it in winter so can give a sense of warmth to the room (and minimises colds etc)

  • I pick warm steam. It is the only one works for my kids.

  • For kids safety and walls I’d prefer cool.

  • Warm steam can help loosen mucus!

  • My vote for cool mist as my baby is really small, under 6 months and I wouldn’t want anything to induce allergies. With steam, there have been cases of mould buildup on walls, etc. Of course it is great for sniffles but I would rather add an organic essential oil like eucalyptus to the cool mist diffuser once it’s safe for bub.

  • I think warm mist is better for us.

  • We bought a cool one and it has been amazing, the chemist told us basically it does the same thing but it doesn’t make the walls sweat thankfully

  • I think warm steam will be better

  • I would go warm steam for congestion as long as in a safe spot
