I was thinking about my son as well and whether to get his done.
My hubby’s son from a previous relationship got it done recently at 13 because apparently all of his friends have theirs done which is why I thought about it…

I had both my sons done when they were babies because their father wasn’t he wanted them done as he said cleaner for them. But I would not like it done when older as it is very painful then also drs say if a lot of skin that is better done. I know some drs are against doing it now and only do if they see a medical problem.

I don’t have boys so I really don’t know what I would have chosen. Most likely I would not have gone for circumcision mainly because I don’t think I could put a baby through that.

We are all for it there are lots of different views on this. But when we did the research we were all for it this is more for the health aspects. If it came to it it wasn’t something that we would like to happen to their child in their 20s (as it had to be done for a family friend) he said that he would of it happened when he was little.

Circumcision is so outdated. It’s unnecessary. Why would you want to hurt your baby so badly, and it does hurt, when you don’t have to?

Regardless of circumcised or un-circumcised; boys need to be taught about hygiene.

My son is intact. I leave it alone. The foreskin is designed to protect the head and be self cleaning. A soak in the tub regularly is all it needs. As your son gets older he will grab it and pull it (at every opportunity) – especially in the bath. It will gradually retract over time. Do not try retracting it yourself. Leave him to himself and it will happen by itself. My son is almost 2 and not had a problem yet.

Day 9, everything has gone just as planned.
Plastibell is still there but the string is slowly undoing.

At the start is was a tad daunting as it looked sore, little one wasn’t worried at all, slept threw the whole thing, the drive home was full of stops the whole way as the anaesthetic wore off.
I’m not one for drugging babies so I just stopped several times calmed him down & drove another 5 mins then stopped again :).

I went to a cancer skin clinic as I wasn’t willing to leave my boys life in a hospitals hands as they deal with a lot of other things where the clinic I went to just deals with skin.
Well worth the extra cash.

Overall he just got his 4month injections & that is more of an issue to him.
If your thinking about it pre labour don’t wait, do your research now as I do wish we got it done post labour after discharged.

Absolutely up to you – I couldn’t bring myself to do it but everyone I know who has had boys recently has had it done so it is still popular.

Hey Carlene, I booked an appointment in to see the specialist.
Was only $60 to have a chat & hear what it’s all about, my midwife advised me to not read what’s online.
But this is what he said in a non scientific way & I’ll tell you for free,
I’m not trying to sway or take away your choice but studies have proved that it has reduced the infections & transmitted diseases by 60 percent.
Pain in a newborn is dismal compared to needing it removed later in life,
He said that your better off getting it done as soon as you are discharged up to two weeks as they are still sleepy from being in the womb, if you go past two weeks wait till 3 months & then they can give bubs cream to numb before the local, which is what I’ve been waiting for.
I was all against it cause in my eyes was un necessary to get rid of a piece of skin for it too look good, so my partner said he would like it done & left the decision up to me.
Been studying & made my appointment 3 weeks ago & ever since I have been all for it.
Wish I done my research prior & got it done when he was a newborn though.

I’m due to have my first son in 2 1/2 months, and this debate has been raging with my parents, my mum is pretty much trying to force the issue of having it done, whilst my dad is totally dead against it… I have looked online to see what the pros and cons are about it, and yes I understand for hygiene reasons it might be more beneficial but then at the same time I don’t want to inflict any unnecessary pain on my baby, even though he’ll probably never remember it being done.. I guess it all comes down to your own personal decision but at present, I don’t think I’ll personally be having it done.

No backlash here babe, that’s exactly how I feel & that’s what the specialist said.
My family are all against it which is my choice in the end but they don’t see it like that.
We are not religious so to me that’s there opinion.

there is such a raging debate on circumcision. i believer its a personal choice and hopefully no MOMs backlash me for saying that I am pro-circumsicion, i just had my son done, my husband is done- so is his dad/brother and my dad/brother/cousins etc. I do believe it has health benefits. Studies have showed it decreases risk of contracting HIV from female partner by 60%.

I dont have a son so my views are a little different i suspect but on boyfriends i noticed those who were circumcised had scars on their penis from it some of which were very bad.
As for health as long as you teach him to pull back the foreskin and vlean it properly there shouldn’t be a health problem. Important** the foreskin stays attached to the head of the penis until 8-10 yrs old or when heading into puberty** DO NOT TRY TO FORCE IT BACK this could cause injury.
On the other side is for health reasons some full grown men need to be circumcised and that’s a worse experience for them and much longer healing time.

Also think of the head of the penis like the clitorus, its the most sensitive part of the genitals and can be the source of the most pleasure. The foreskin protects this without a forskin it becomes desensitized. Another way to think of it is what if we were talking about girls??? Although i believe that is like comparing apples and oranges but still worth thinking about.

Well the foreskin is literally attached to the head of the penis until a boy is 5years old. (Roughly) and the actual procedure (you should watch it prior to making your decision) looks dreadfully painful they forcefully move the foreskin down and cut it off basically. Apparently there are some benefits from having it removed (ie less likely to pass on sits) but do your research. Weigh up for and aginsts

I don’t believe it’s necessary. Neither of mine have been done. My partner is not done either. A friend of mine had her son done because her husband was done and she wanted her son to look like Daddy.

From my research and understanding it is a lot more traumatic to have it done after the first month. Research it yourself and discuss with your partner, it is something that he can choose to do later in life if he really wants to, but it can never be undone.

Many friends of mine are aged care nurses and insist it is better for ‘hygiene reasons’ so I believed it was for the best for a while. But now I am expecting my first son and like you, I am also giving it a lot more thought. I think it is one of those traditions that are dying out as it really is unnecessary. As an analogy –> We have to clean between our toes carefully to avoid developing a skin infection but we don’t cut our toes off to make it easier to clean there. We just learn to move the toes apart and to gently and carefully clean between. Nature gave men foreskins for a reason, to protect an opening into the body.

Firstly is it necessary? is there a problem where this must be done? If not and it is because someone is influencing you for whatever old wives tail or whatever, leave it alone. It is very painful for baby there can be a severe blood loss and even sometimes cause severe damage, and the anesthetic has risks as well . If you are of Jewish faith it is a customary thing and totally unnecessary for the health of your son. If you have been told because his father has been done and they aught to look the same….what for? how often are they likely to be comparing their penises? My son was not done, however when he was about 10 years of age it had to be done and that was really painful and traumatic for him and for me, but he had bruises he showed off to his mates once he was back at school and one of his mates, mother was a nurse so this little fellow explained the entire surgical procedure to the class. My son was a hero for a while for enduring such an ordeal! Really if there is nothing wrong leave it alone.
