Bookshops also have book reading lists for young children. Series can be fun for children to read as they can become engrossed in the characters and the stories. There are series for all ages available in bookshops and libraries.
The kids have a wide range of books they enjoy reading – fiction and non fiction. We work our way through the library lists – they have top books and lists of new books for the month. Your local library is a good source for getting new and interesting books – worth taking a look.
My 13 year old daughter has read The Hunger Games Trilogy, His Dark Materials and Divergent.
My 11 year old is loving The Warrior Cat series. (by Erin Hunter)
I have read some of what they read and don’t mind reading books aimed at this age group. I recently read Tomorrow When the War Began and Bridge Over Terabithia. 🙂
My 12 year old boy has read most of the goosebumps series. Anything by Morris glitzman seems a hit with this age range, Harry Potter and he’s just started another book by the same author but not Harry Potter (sorry can’t think of name right now). I haven’t really read any of the books he’s into but I do research and check that they’re appropriate for age and content. He’s also just started an interest in autobiographys – sports and people he follows which I think is great. ( I do screen these more as I know autobiographys can have a lot of content young teens don’t need to read!)
My daughter is 14 and she’s reading a lot of different books. Lately she’s is reading books by Kirsty Murray. She loves Geronimo Stilton, Horrible Histories books, books by Andy Griffith, Morris Gleitzman. And of course Harry Potter. And a lot more. I must admit I’m not reading her same books anymore.
