Hello!

After each feed my 8 week old is not happy. He does not get milk drunk and is always bright eyed after each feed. I burp him, sit him upright for about hour. Let him have tummy time then when he gets grizzly I wrap him up and put him down. Sometimes he will go off to sleep straight away other times I will hold him to sleep then put him down. 15-20 mins later he is awake again. He dreams and screams in his sleep it’s only a few seconds then back to sleep, but he won’t go into a deep sleep. I know it’s normal for bubs not to fully sleep between feeds solidly for 4 hours but he is hardly sleeping at all between feeds. Can anyone offer any advice?

  • I was going to post an answer but after reading the ones there they were really spot on. There will be good days and bad days, one day they just start sleeping. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, do whatever gets you some rest aswell. All the best :)

  • burp every few minutes during feeding instead of waiting until the end of the feed. Is he putting on enough weight? This should be a good indicator as to wether he’s latching on properly. Are you feeding from one side only or both? I would feed from one side only to ensure he’s getting enough hind (fatty) milk, then a top up from the other side if you want. He should be sleeping solidly between feeds. After a feed, let him have ‘play’ time, then sleep. So feed, play, sleep.

  • My boy has nights where he grizzles and fights sleep. I just persist. Some nights are good, others take hours. One day it will just get easier.

  • Perhaps he’s got reflux. Go see GP or child maternal health nurse.
