Hello!

I have so many lemons at the moment and would like to know if any mums have ideas on how to use them that doesn’t involve cooking or baking?

  • Great to make natural cleaning products with or to scent your home.

  • have heard they are good for cleaning with. great to juice and freeze in ice cube trays for later use. swapping produce with neighbors or family is an idea.

  • Use them to make natural cleaning products.

  • If you want to lighten your hair, rub lemon juice into your hair and go out into the sun.

  • You could squeeze them and pour the juice into ice cube trays. Then add them to glasses of water for a tangy, healthy drinks.

  • You can use them to make invisible ink for the kids.

  • Lemons purify your blood, just by adding some juice to water should be beneficial. When eating with fish & chips they help break down the fat.We grew up with pike lets with sugar & lemon juice.

  • Lemon juice is great for removing stains. Apply to stain, sit in sun til dry and wash. Also good for rust removal.

  • If you live on the mornington peninsula, I will come get them. Mum has a lung disease, and lemons are her thing, every morning in a glass of hot water x

  • Sometimes I use lemon juice as a natural disinfectant.
Spray it on the benches, table, sink etc

  • if you are blonde , lemon make a nice hair rinse.
Or squeeze them and freeze the juice in ice cube trays.

  • Lemons in a glass of water and ice cubes is great.

  • Lemon juice is great for stain removal especially berry stains!

  • I forgot to mention preserved lemon, cut lemon into slices, and put in an airtight jar with lots and lots of salt. After a couple of weeks you can cut the zest off and use it in pasta, cous cous, fish/seafood and Mediterranean style dishes

  • You can juice them and freeze them in ice cube trays and you’ll never need to buy store bought lemon juice again. I cut some up, put them in the (stainless steel) kettle and boil it a few times to get rid of stains, you can clean the sink with a cut lemon and bicarb soda, a slice in hotwater with honey is great ifmyou have a sore throat. Lemon squeezed over fresh pancakes with sugar or squeezed over seafood, or pasta. The zest is great too

  • You could squeeze out the juice of 3 lemons, mix it with 1 cup of sugar and 1L hot water to make delicious lemon drink. I know Australians drink it warm but it makes a nice refreshing drink cold too.
Also, lemon juice down the drain helps kill any smells from food going down the kitchen sink.

  • Lemon rubbed on chopping boards kill any bacteria lurking on them and remove any residue stick in fine grooves in them.
Not sure about boiling cotton socks in it. The elastic (sometimes listed as elastine) in the tops to hold them up is nylon. I suspect the heat could perish it. Most now often have synthetic blend – some more or less melt in very hot water. I would be more inclined to soak them using either cold or warm. Bare in mind that lemon is acidic so make sure it is completely rinsed out of the fabric or it may affect your skin. I also wouldn’t use it in a washing machine, especially one with a metal bowl.

  • I use lemon juice to clean my kettle.

  • Clean discoloured utensils with a cloth dipped in lemon juice, rinse with warm water.
Remove scratches on furniture by mixing equal parts of lemon juice and salad oil and rubbing it on the scratches with a soft cloth.
To get odours out of wooden rolling pins, bowls, or cutting boards, rub with a piece of lemon. Don’t rinse: The wood will absorb the lemon juice.
After a shampoo, rinse your hair with lemon juice to make it shine. Mix the strained juice of a lemon in glass of warm water.
Get grimy white cotton socks white again by boiling them in water with a slice of lemon.

  • My solution would be to give them away to family and friends! We always give away extra produce.
