What do mums found best or teething and a cold/flu

i have a almost 1 year old and his teething and getting a cold, i was wondering what mums had found that was good for teething and a cold out of panadol, nurofen, etc.

Panadol is our first option, then Nurofen. Nurofen has slightly more risks out of the two (regarding breathing). Hubs works in medicine so I take his advice on the matter.
